Default COLORADO - Boggy-Glade Travel Management Plan Released For Public Review

COLORADO - Boggy-Glade Travel Management Plan Released For Public Review

The San Juan National Forest, located in the southwestern corner of Colorado, has announced that the Dolores Public Lands Office has released a revised Pre-decisional Environmental Assessment (EA) and Preferred Alternative for the Boggy-Glade Travel Management Plan.
The San Juan NF deserves credit for responding to local enthusiasts suggestions and including 20 additional miles and limited off-route game retrieval in the plan. This will require a minor amendment to the existing (and outdated) Forest Plan to allow for a higher road density in a portion of the Boggy-Glade area.
The agency will take public comments on the revised plan during a 30-day public review and comment period. You can review the plan at the Dolores Public Lands Office or by calling 970-882-7296. The EA will also be posted on the San Juan National Forest website here.
Changes in the new alternative include:
  • 379 miles of road would be open to general motorized use including ATVs and UTV vehicles.
  • 68 miles of motorized trails would be open to vehicles 50-inches or less in width (ATVs).
  • 61 miles of non-motorized trails, including newly designated trails in the Sage Hen area, and a new trail linking Dolores to House Creek would be offered.
  • Camping will be allowed up to 300 feet either side of open roads
  • Day-use parking up to 30 feet off the Dolores Norwood Road and FR514
  • Day-use parking one vehicle length from all other forest roads
  • Seasonal motorized restrictions to protect winter wildlife habitat would be in place from December 1st through May 1st in the McPhee Reservoir and Glade Mountain areas.
  • Camping closures at trailheads and selected wetlands.
  • Recommendation to transfer jurisdiction of the Dolores-Norwood Road to Montezuma and Dolores Counties.
Written comments must be received by the Dolores Public Lands Office, 29211 Hwy 184, Dolores, Colorado, 81323, by close of business Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011. Comments are most helpful if concerns are focused on the Boggy-Glade area transportation system. All comments received previously will be considered in the final decision.

Electronic comments can be sent to: comments-rocky-mountain-san-juan-man...ores@fs.fed.us.

Comments received in response to this solicitation, including names and addresses of those who comment will be considered part of the public record. For questions about the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process, standing to appeal the final decision or documentation contact Deborah Kill, NEPA Coordinator at 882-7296.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
