Default NEVADA - Douglas County Proposing Burbank Canyons as Wilderness in Conservation Bill

NEVADA - Douglas County Proposing Burbank Canyons as Wilderness in Conservation Bill

Many Nevada recreationists were caught off-guard when they found out that Humboldt County had asked U.S. Senator Harry Reid to designate yet another 26,000 acres of Wilderness.
Don't get caught off-guard again!
Senator Reid's county-by-county Land Use Legislation process has now moved to Nevada's Douglas County. The County has put together a draft bill and NOW is the time to make your opinion known. This is especially important if you live in and/or recreate in Douglas County!

How can you learn more?In early to mid-December, Douglas County will hold five Community Open Houses to inform the public and receive public comment. In the meantime, the County has identified Legacy Land and Water as a contact for additional information, questions and comments. Reach them at 775-782-9492.

According to the County, the Goals of the legislation are:The Douglas County Conservation Bill would: (1) transfer important federally owned cultural sites to the Washoe Tribe; (2) transfer federally owned flood control management areas and important water resource infrastructure parcels to Douglas County; (3) improve the management of certain federally owned public recreation parcels; (4) propose designating the Burbank Canyons as Wilderness; and (5) dispose of certain excess and difficult to manage federal lands, ensuring that the sales proceeds are used to acquire conservation easements from willing landowners in Douglas County.
The county says the bill is a product of an "all-inclusive joint planning effort between Douglas County, the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, federal agencies, state agencies, local towns and general improvement districts, and more than 90 stakeholder groups. Douglas County has received the support of a vast majority of the stakeholders. "
BRC will blast another alert as soon as we know the dates and locations for the "Community Open Houses."

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.

Thanks in advance for your support,
