There are different types of green loctite. The stuff cat uses is 640 hi temp high strength retaining compound. I use red when i put it back together.

Since that other post popped up, Thought I'd pull this back up for an update on what folks have ended up with. So let's hear what everyone ended up with.

I'm still running the 150/270 h5 spring, with 110/290 slp primary, stock 68g weights, stock helix, riding 6-9k elev. Loving every minute of it. Well over 1k miles on this setup, these exact springs actually, Works great in the trees, no bogs, backshifts great pulls like a mofo at 8100-8200 rpm all day.

this year I installed a y-pipe and did the track "mod" to my 2.6" and she's performing like a raped ape to the point buddies have accused me of piping it or something over the summer. One buddy has a twin piped 910 bb pro, really diehard poo guy, and he took my sled for a rip and came back and first words out of his mouth was "that m-effer is fun!" Real happy with how she's running.

14 153, TKI 2.52 ratio, Speedwerx H5 120-310 primary, H5 150-250 secondary spring, Cutler IT adjustable's 65 gram ran empty. Full jaws pipe. 2.6 p.c. with fingers cut off. Rode southern Colorado Wolf Creek 3 days and the Snowies for a day. Engagement was smooth around 4200 or so, couldn't even pull 8,000 rpm 7800 plus was about it. Any thoughts? Drop down a few grams?

This was a great thread. I just re-read most of it. I ended up with the Speedwerx H5 170/270 secondary spring and liked it better than the stock secondary spring.

I see Vern went to the same Speedwerx H5 spring but the rate is 150/270 and is as happy as clam as well.

So, I have to wonder if I might be even happier with the 150-270.....spring vern is using?:juggle:

Are there any new updates on the subject?

Nothings changed for me, still lovin my set up and have no intentions of changing anything. Spent all last season giving my buddies 910 pro fits on my basically stock kitty.

I did replace the bushings in the secondary the other day though and the new ones felt sloppier then my 2500 mile stockers, so hopefully she don't start having issues.

Thanks Vern. Do you think there would be enough of a difference for me to go from my current 170/270 to your 150/270?

It may just be more trouble than it's worth OR maybe it would be well worth my efforts?

That I couldn't say, I didn't try any other springs to compare to and have no idea how much difference 20lbs makes. Sorry.

All I can say is I like to clutch sleds with as light of springs as I can with as heavy of weights as it'll pull without killing backshift or causing slippage. In my mind that seems way more efficient than having to over come huge stiff springs, and so far I've had very good results on my past couple sleds.

16 LTD #1

9K plus alt.

Diamond S quiet can
--083 belt
--20/49 gearing 7 tooth
Primary
--MDS .... SS bolt and washer at tip
--122/285 H5 with spring cup adapter (liked it better than 120/310 H5 but may try it again)( i think 120/310 may work better with a softer secondary spring with the 43 helix --will try it)

Secondary
--43 helix
--180/270 H5 spring (going to try 150-160 / 250 - 260) ( I think 270 is too much and holds back upshift) ( maybe try stock 180/240 spring with 43 helix before i buy more springs)
-- this year adding BMP anti bind washers ,,, i think i may actually feel the secondary spring binding up sometimes in powder and i coulndnt trace it out...cant hurt for sure
http://bikemanperformance.com/snowm...secondary-smooth-shift-teflon-washer-kit.html

16 LTD #2

9k elev.

Stock can
083 belt
20/49 gearing -- 7 tooth

Primary
-- 66 gram Cat weights..matched to weigh the same
--122/285 H5 spring with spring cup adapter (120/310 doesnt pull as hard)

Secondary
--43 helix
--180/270 H5 spring ( want to try 150-160 / 250-260 spring for better topend shift out) (stock is 180/240 and 48 helix) (maybe try stock spring 180/240 with the 43 helix for another baseline before i spend more money)
-- will also add BMP anti bind washers

In Summary:

--The MDS setup pulls high 30's - low 40"s track speed in powder 10 K elev. with more snap in the midrange
--The Cat weights setup pulls mid to upper 30's track speed in powder 10K elev.
--At least a 5mph difference in track speed in powder

--Noticeable difference between the two weight setups--recommend MDS before any expensive engine mod or pipe kit besides Diamond S can(which apparently dynoed to actually make a few hp, not lose any hp)

--Going to use BMP anti bind washers in secondary
--Going to try a softer finish rate spring in the secondary with the 43 helix(180/240 stock spring for starters but may end up in the 250-260 range--tachometer will tell)

I went ahead and ordered (and received) a Speedwerx H5 150-270 secondary spring.

I think I will leave my 170-270 in for the start of the season so I can try it before swapping springs so I can see if I can feel a difference.

Also, I see you have a 2.42 gearing (27 tooth upper) on your belt drive. I have 2.63 (25 tooth upper). I REALLY want to try to try going with at least a 26 tooth upper gear. I think I am leaving a lot on the table with my current gearing.

Not a 150-270? That's what Vern has...

Oops- fixed the numbers - I have a 170/270 currently and bought a 150/270 to test once I get a couple rides under my belt this season.

Hope it works out for you. If your referring to me on the belt drive stuff your mistaken. I'm still running a hyvo chain with stock 19-50 gears.

P.s. I'm running a 110-290 slp primary spring, think it's black and grey/silver, if anyone's interested

Im thinking i will go with similar with what you are running in the secondary..

9-12 K ft

Secondary
--48 stock or 50 deg. helix
--150 / 270 .. 180 / 270 .. or 160 / 260 spring

--Thinking the 43 helix is the wrong direction...

Primary
--MDS or 66 gr Cat weights
-122/285 h5(and spring cup adapter) or 110/290 slp (probably better, with lower engagement) spring

What kind of thread locker do you guys use to reassemble the secondary? Cat specs green loctite 620. Almost impossible to get that stuff in Canada and about 70 bucks for 50ml. Kind of steep for the couple drops I need if you ask me...
