I snowmobiled for 6 years, took 4 years off, then got back into snowmobiling last year and bought a 2009 rmk 800. I hate it! It's just too heavy for me and I always felt like I couldn't control it. So now I am in the market for another sled. I want to stick with a Polaris. We mostly ride in the McCall Idaho and Joseph Oregon area. We don't trail ride much, mostly boon docking. I probably won't buy anything newer than a 2010 and nothing older than a 2008. Thanks for your input.

I ride a 2010 600/155 and my wife rides a 2004 600/144. I think hers is a kick in the pants but do like the 155 track and taller size for my build. Given that you limited yourself to 2008-2010 and a Polaris, there aren't that many options available and the weight isn't that much different between them. Granted, mine is not stock but it does feel lighter than other IQ 600's due to the power increase and the Assault suspension I guess.

Why are you limiting yourself to a 2010?

Have you ridden a 2011? Quite a bit of difference in weight and feel between them.

I really don't want to spend more than $6,000 - so that is why I was thinking I probably needed to limit to the 2010 sleds.

Because the 800 was too much for me, should I be looking at the 600's or would a 700 be fine?

And I have not ridden a 2011.

Don't ride a 2011 or newer, unless your willing to shell out the $$ otherwise you will just be wanting one.:face-icon-small-win

What don't you like about your ride now? 600 do feel a little more maneuverable.

The older 600 rmk will not be much different than your dragon, that only leaves the new Pro 600, or a Summit etec 600, I would pick the 2013 pro 600 155

The new Pro is suppose to be all that. 2011 to 2013

I would look at a 2010 RMK 600 modded to a 660.

Less centrifical force from the engine and more flickable yet has more power than stock

Since you are a boondocker an aftermarket narrower front suspension will allow it to be more flickable and easier to sidehill.

There is very little value increase (compared to the time and cost of the upgrade) in the 660 kit for resale.

My GF rides a 2011 Pro RMK 800.

She is tiny, 5'2" and she throws that sled around when she rides it. It almost never has both skis on the ground at the same time. She sidehills like a champ. Puts a lot of guys to shame.

It's outside your range of 2008-2010 and a little over the budget of $6k-- but not by much. If you ride one, you will buy one. They are that good.

What is a pleasurable riding experience worth to you?

We picked up a 2012 600 standard rmk pro ride chassis last year for my wife and now I like to ride it more than my sled sometimes. She had a really hard time on my 2008/10 700 dragon, (almost the same as your sled) and her ability tripled overnight with the 2012. I can ride that sled for 6 hours straight and not be sore and worn out the next day like I would be on my sled.

In the great part of OR.
If you don't want to go any newer than 10, I would look for a 09 600 155. They are solid sleds, I would widen the skis to the widest setting, spend a little money on higher end shocks. Fox float two's for the wife would be just fine, IMO. Set the rear suspention to her weight, and there you have it. By far a better handleing sled than a 800 due to less rotating mass.

What is the difference between an 08 and 09 rmk 600? I see a lot more 08's available on Craigslist. Was there any motor recalls in that time frame I should be aware of?
Thanks for all the input.

And what about a 700? I'm guessing the rotating mass is in between the 6&800???

rmk

I agree with above post. unless you put more money into the iq rmk i dont see it being much different no matter what engine. My wife went from the iq to 2012 600 rmk and it made a world of difference to her. Much easier to ride. Probably not in the budget but if you hate the 800 then i dont see you loving a 600 in the iq chassis. JMO!

Thanks for the advice everyone. Looks like she will be looking at the new 600 Pro RMK. Can't see getting a used one without the drive belt system for a thousand or so less.

Thanks again

What about modifying the suspension set up on her current 800 if she financially needs to ride it another year. I'm of the opinion that you ought to buy what you want, but sometimes you have to wait a little bit to get it. Since she already has the 800, maybe it can be set up slightly different to make it "feel" lighter or more nimble for her, then save up and get something different next year, like a '13 600 Pro. This would give you another year to test ride some and see if that is what she is comfortable on.

There were mechanically minimal differences between the '08's and the '09's. Mostly cosmetic in the front end. 08 had the large plastic bumper and the 09's had the sleeker snout with the aluminum bumper.

I love my 2008 800 Dragon 163. I am not a really big guy, 6'2 172 lbs and it is an absolute breeze to boondock with. One of my buddies rides a 2010 600 rmk 155 and loves it as well. If I were you I would look for a 2011 Pro RMK 600.

Remember it is way more economical to bye a sled that is even slightly used than one that is brand new. It is probably even worth getting one a year older or so and in stalling an after market belt drive for a few hundred bucks just sayin

No such thing as a 2011 PRO chassis RMK 600. In 2011 it was still the IQ chassis.
