Hello snowest, I'm fairly new to the sport as I only have a few seasons under my belt. First off, I have a 2010 summit 163 XP 800 ptek, somewhere around 4500 miles, and stock as far as I know except for a can.

So, my buddy wrecked it into a tree, and dented the pipe. I also noticed while I had it apart to fix it the pipe was split inside the bend.

I decided to replace it with the SLP kit, y-pipe, pipe, and silencer. Here comes the question. SLP recommend jetting up to a 490(is 480 stock?) No idea what's in there now. I also intend to put in boyesen reeds, they recommend jetting down. Will these two modifications cancel each other out?

Thanks in advance!

Now are you doing the slp air intake too or a air box mod. I was using 500 mains with the exhaust and modded air box with the boysen reeds. Also I would shim up the needles those sled run lean in the mid range. I barely saw over 1250f on my etgs and motor lasted over 12000 kms.

Yes, I went ahead and ordered their air intake kit. I'm still learning, but I have a mechanical background. Problem is I spend way too much time out at sea. I guess I need to order up some jets and shims. How much should I shim the needles? Do I need to run different jets in each side? I've heard it mentioned a couple times, I've basically read the entire REV and XP sub forums, and I have to admit the info is kinda blurring together.

I'm reading up on plug reading and piston wash, never done either. I'm hoping to get one more trip in when I get home, so I'm hoping I don't have to spend too much time fiddling... Will I be dangerously lean if I slap on the SLP exhaust system and go hit the hill?

My pipe is fubar, but I could probably dig up a stocker if that's safer. I have two XP sleds and a rev, but intend to have them all out on the hill. I ride in the priest lake Idaho area, so I'll be around 3500-6500 feet.

Plan for summer is to hit up winterbrew, since he's just a little south of me, and find out what I should do for clutches (never had one open) maybe he has some scissor relocation brackets for me too, as I have an 09 146" as well as an 08 154" skid I want to put in my REV. Gonna learn alot this summer... Save some spring snow for me!

I was running 40thou for the shims stock was 30. I ran 500 mains in both with no problems. But my air box is heavily modded.
Where about in Washington are you?

I live in Kent, but right now I'm bobbing around the bearing sea... Thanks for your input. Any reason you chose to go 500 over SLP's suggested 490? Why does boyesen suggest smaller jets? I have so much to learn on these machines...

What all have you done to the airbox? I assume EGT's should be kept under 1250 like my Cummins, since aluminium melts around there... I guess I should think about a pyro. I was hoping more people would chime in, but I guess XP riders are a dying breed...

Anybody know if the carbs are interchangeable between the REV and XP? I have a spare rack of them.

Most guys around here (Wa) left the stock jetting or maybe up 1 size. Just do some good throttle chop/plug checks at various throttle positions to verify. Watch for deto sensor and plugs loosening, but it never seemed to be a problem.

Since you seem to be a highly regarded expert around here brew, are you saying try stock jetting and go from there? Or start at 490? I'm still confused as to how he reeds affect mixture. Also I'm going to need your contact info, as I would like to run your clutching in all three of my sleds, I've never touched them, and my old rev's primary is rattling (o rings?). Do you still have the relocation brackets?

Also question for anyone, is it worth it to mount an XP skid in the old rev? I have a 154" ported track I was going to put on to replace my haggard 151", already have ski doo 2.86 drivers and a big wheel setup...

As far as I know winterbrew no longer works for roosterbuilt clutching. Not saying he won't guide you in the right direction, but maybe contact Roosterbuilt and ask them about clutching for your sleds.
As far as jetting goes I have no idea what to tell you, good luck

Changing the reeds increases airflow and velocity so it will pull more fuel through the jet hence dropping a couple jet sizes with reeds. I ran into this on the Polaris big block 800's back in the day.

Here is what I did with my air box, 2 1/2” holes in the back of the box, two openings on the side and covered with slp filter fabric. Also all the holes in the panel, they really didn’t take long to do.
Never have a problem bogging down in the deep fluff, and don’t have to wipe it clean like some others.

Well, I'm on the last trip of the season, so I'll be home in a bit over a week to start playing with my pile of parts and see what happens.

That looks like a ton of drilling treeboy! I don't have time to get that carried away before the snow melts!

I'll keep you guys posted on what I learned after getting all this together, praying for more snow out Idaho way!

Really drilling time wasn’t that much, had the template and the brews to do it one night.
Get creative on the panel and you can get the same effect.
