im looking at a 2005 rmk 900 and a 2003 or 04 escape i can get the escape for super cheap and all it needs is a belly pan so im leaning towards that but i know they have crank problems but my freind has one with a crank balencer in it and it seems to work awsome but whats the best way to fix the crank because ive heard of the balancer, and the stiffener plate i dono if they even make them for these sleds but what else is there todo other then buying and after market crank ?

super cheap

There are a many reasons why these sleds are super cheap and you have already mentioned one big reason.

thats why i was asking it my friends sled it runs awsome but he just dosent use it and the belly pans not that bad but its cracked so i was just wondering if theres a way to extend the life of the crank. he bougth the sled for 5500$ half way through last winter used it 4 times and said he would sell it to me for 2000$

if you can get a vertical escape for $2000 and it only has a cracked bellypan, jump on it and the cranks do go but I have seen them last 8000 miles with nothing done to them. I for one have had great luck with the 800's
and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

For 2k i would grab it. I have 2, 03 escapes and have had no crank issues. I do take care of my clutches every season.

The 03 Escape is a great sled. Any of the Polaris 800's until they went to the 900 in 05 can have crank issues, it's not just the Escapes. Making sure the primary clutch is in good shape is supposed to go a long way toward keeping the crank in one piece.

Regarding crank issues on the 800:

I ran my 2002 EDGE-X 800 for 6500+ miles no problems, However I did send my primary clutch to SLP, $35.00 to balance it, definitely noticeably smoother lotsa lightenening holes drilled, and I feel that helped extend crank life, I checked crank runout every season .002"-.0025" and that's the most I would want to see.

My bud's 2003 XC 800, 4500+ miles no crank issues, balanced the primary as well, no crank issues:face-icon-small-hap

My other bud's 2002 EDGE-X 800, 7500 miles, crank failed, never balanced the primary:mad:

I would check the crank run-out, .0025" is the MOST I would want to see, and spend the $35.00 and get your primary clutch balanced, I.MO.
