Just wonderin how easy a swap like this is? I have a line on a 03 with walker evans shocks all the way around plus the usual other goodies. It has a popped motor and my 2000 rmk 800 is strong and fresh.(Ported,polished shaved head)It has tunnel damage and the suspension is worn. The 03 is 500 and other than the motor is in very nice shape. Thanx in advance for any help!:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;

You will need a motor plate from a 700 or 800 edge the 500 and 600 were difrent. then it just bolts in. I dont know what to tell you on the pipe ive read alot on that and get mixed reviews so ill leave that to someone elts.

My 2000 has slp twins if this helps any. So using the existing motor mount in the edge chassis with my motor is it?

If you install the 2000 using the 2003 mounts, the motor will be tipped forward. You will need to modify your pipes to compensate for the different angle of the motor and thickness of the cylinder castings. The 03 was a VES motor and the cylinders are about a half an inch thicker around the exhaust ports than your non VES. Your pipes are longer than the 03 and the motor mounting will throw the pipe mounts off a little. Also the hole where the pipes exit will probably change as well as the can mount. You can probably use spacers on the 2000 mount and get it to mount in the 03 chassis.

You will need the 03 carb adapters again because they match the angle of the tipped motor. This will allow you have the carb sit level and to use the stock 03 air box. Wiring harness should plug right in. Use the 03 coolant and oil bottles and you will need to do a little mix and match on the hoses.

If the WE shocks were on an 800 you wont need to change the springs. I dont know if they came on a 500. I am not for sure on the application but be sure to check that out because it will change the handeling if the springs are to soft.

I have done the swaps in 7 and 800's and I used the stock pipe from the edge and swapped the engine straps and intake boots.

I'm confused when you guys keep mentioning the 500 it seems like nothing off the 500 will help me but I don't have a 500 they are both 800's

Well right now im doing the same thing im just putting a 700 out of a 98 in a 2001 600 and I know that nothing from the 600 will help with the swap. But the 800 you should be good it should bolt right up. I know I am having a few problems but you shouldnt. If you are planning on running Perc you need the flywheel off the 2003 because it is a 18 degree flywheel and like stated above the carb boots need to be changed but I think that the ves pipe & Y off the 2003 should still work I talked to a guy and he said he is running one in his transplant.

if they are both 800's then just take the intake boots and the engine straps and put them on your motor and put them in, try the pipes if they don't fit it I'm sure you can find something. I would probably run the newer carbs also

Can i use the primary off the 2000 with the edge secondary?Also is it a good idea to use the carbs off the 2000, I know someone said the edge carbs are better but my 2000 800 is dialed with the jetting etc. and I'd rather keep it the way it is. Any body have any ideas on the power difference between my slp twins and a slp single?:beer;:beer;

Carbs

Nothing wrong with your 2000 carbs, run them. Both are flat slides. The later ones have an adjustable air screw instead of a replaceable air jet, easier to fine tune. Polaris changed calibration on the VES 800 motors after 02 to clean up mid range and improve fuel economy. That doesn't matter on your NON VES motor so stick with what you have.

The SLP single will be very constant on power no mater if it's hot or cold. Twins have a little more power but have to be hot to make good power. If you dump powder on them or stop and let them cool off, you need to run it a little to get the heat back in them.
