I've happy to post that the NS1 Gauge System now has much more extensive Garmin compatible map support. This means that map products from VVMapping, RedpineMapping, GPSTrailMasters, TrakMaps, and many others can now be used on the NS1. This support is in addition to the already existing support for the preloaded street and trails maps, and cacheable topographic and aerial imagery.

This support includes rendering the map features as specified by the Garmin compatible map product. For example, if VVMapping defines a special style to be used for major snowmobile trails, that trail will be rendered according to that style on the NS1.

The NS1's Garmin compatible map support also allows you to control how much detail is shown, and at what zoom levels. It even lets you disable specific map features, like shopping centers or roads.

The easiest way to load a Garmin compatible map product on the NS1 is to simply install a preloaded MicroSD card into the NS1 Display. This is done by simply removing a rubber plug and using a screwdriver to install the MicroSD card itself. If you don't have a preloaded MicroSD card you can also connect the NS1 Display to a computer using USB and transfer the map product's files over.

There are some limitations to the Garmin compatible map support. At the moment turn by turn directions are not supported. Trail and roads names are also not rendered at the moment, but will be by the end of December. In addition, the way the NS1 renders Garmin compatible map products will likely be slightly different from the way an official Garmin device would.
