I thought I would see what everybody else is going to be putting in for a belt drive ratio on the new 16 LTD sled with the 3" track and 7 tooth drivers. Preferably a 162" track. I think I am going to start with 2.33 and see how that does. 2.33 should get it back to the 2.63 ratio they had with the 8 tooth drivers. I am going to have a little more power under the hood also. What is everybody else going to try?

Doing the same. Moving the belt drive from my 14, current ratio is 2.52 (162 2.6 PC track, 8 tooth drivers). Exchanging TKI the top pulley (designed for the 15/16s) and reducing the ratio to 2.3'something' (can't remember exactly what Tom said maybe 2.33 or 2.38). The 16 is a 153 3.0 PC track, 7 tooth drivers.

Does anybody know how many teeth are on the bottom sprocket on a TKI belt drive? I'm pretty sure C3 has 63 teeth on their bottom sprocket. I had a 27 tooth top sprocket and a 63 tooth bottom sprocket when I had 7 tooth drivers and a 3" track which worked pretty well. At that time I thought I could even go with a bigger top sprocket maybe a 28 or 29.

Based on Wyo's numbers above 28 (w/ 7 tooth driver) would be ~2.45 and 29 ~ 2.37?????

I'm a little torn. 2.52 (25/63 TKI belt drive) worked well for me on my '14 (w/ 8 tooth driver). I ran 2.45 (20/49) on my '13 and that worked great also. Ran same clutching on both sleds.

Damn decisions, decisions, decisions.............................

Get two upper pulleys and try them both!

That's a 2.33 ratio so with the 7 tooth you would be about 2.54

FWIW...

I have 2 proclimbs with belt drive - 1 with 7 tooth drivers and 3", other with 8 tooth and 2.6". I found I was happiest with a 2.42 - 2.45 ratio and adjust clutching. Both machines are using a belt drive, but not TKI's - they are C3 units. No issues with blown belts or driveline failures (in 2 seasons of riding), either. I found (in my opinion) that 2.5 and lower was too low and didn't load the motor enough, and 2.33 final drive ratio created a bit too much belt heat for my liking, and the sled felt a bit lazy. the 7 tooth/ 3" sled runs a 27/63 pulley setup, the 8 tooth / 2.6" machine runs a 26/63 pulley setup to obtain the desired ratio.

This is the exact same thing that I have found on sleds with 7 tooth and 8 tooth drivers as far as ratios go for me with belt drives. I have also only had experience with the C3 setup.

27/63 with 7 tooth comes out to about 2.54. Based on a 9% reduction for the 7 tooth, I think it's actually 8.76% after measuring but 9 is close enough.

Slightly off topic but related. With the 8 tooth drivers on my 13 and 14 I was very happy with 20/49. What would be a good ratio with gears and the 7 tooth? I was thinking 19/49 which is 2.57, Or is that too low? Suggestions.

21/49 would be 2.53 (adjusted ratio) w/ 7 t, 2.33 w/ 8 t
22/49 would be 2.42 w/ 7 t, 2.22 w/ 8 t
19/49 would be 2.80 w/ 7 t, 2.58 w/ 8 t

20/49 w/ 8 t is 2.45

28/63 belt drive w/ 7 t would be 2.447, gets you the closest to your 13/14 ratio.

Wyo is correct, and upon closer inspection I realize the 7 tooth / 3" is actually running a 28 tooth top gear - still ends up in the 2.5 ish overall ratio. Not terrible. I guess what he is trying to say (and I'll confirm it), is that you shouldn't gear them too low.

Pretty much.
The stock 16 gears make it worthless. 2.86 is about what it comes out to.

There is some good feedback here. With the 27 tooth top sprocket on my belt drive and 7 tooth drivers I thought it was still too low of a ratio for my liking. I wanted to try a 28 or 29 and see how it would do. The last time I got some top sprockets from C3 it was kind of a pain with C3 being in Canada. I wanted to know if I was heading in the right direction before I decided to order them.

400lb sled 200hp 170lb rider 3" powerclaw with TKI. Was told to run 29t by builder. Gear says 2.17 on it. Tom has them in stock for the pro climb. Think that figures out just shy of 2.40 final
