By now you may have noticed that there is a new option on your USER-CP menu that says **Upgrade to Premium**.

https://secure.snowestonline.com/vbilling/order/join.html

While the upgrade option has been in place for a couple of weeks now, we added the link on Monday to make it easier for members to find as more and more people were asking about it.

As of today, there is still NO hard fast rollover date established, and the Free Memberships you have been enjoying still have 100% of their functionality.

Those who do choose to upgrade to the Premium membership will see a few differences right away though..

Your User Name font will change.
Your User Title will change
You will be able to read all public Social Forums without membership
You will have increased controls in Chat Box
You will be able to Open & Close your own threads
You will be able to tag other's threads
You will have Larger Picture Uploading (1024x768)
Your Avatar size will increase to (150x150)
Your Signature will allow Images
You can hide your user reputation from others
Your personal Photo Album size will increase to (1024x768)
You will have increased control in Social Groups.

Your paid membership also entitles you to several new features in the New SwapMeet that will allow you to make your ads stand out from all the others...

With time, the Free Basic Memberships will begin to comply with the features that were listed in the Letter to all SnoWest Members from Harris Publishing. But this will be a gradual process and will not happen all at once on any one given day.

The goal is to NOT have 10,000 members upgrade all at once and overload the processing system. Our hope is that we will have a nice steady flow of conversions day after day rather than a massive deluge all at once...

Just follow the link and you will see the differences.
It will be just as it was outlined last November.

S
From the link:
* Full posting ability in the SwapMeet forum, the SnowSafety forum, and the SnowMembers forum
* Limited posting ability in the other forums
* Limited ability to read other topics and forums
* Private Message Capabilities with limited storage

In other words:
No posting in the OEM specific forums (Cat, Polaris, Doo, Yam)
No posting in General Snowmobiling, Fouled Plug, Regional Sections, etc.

Gradual is good and some of the upgrades look nice as a complimentary feature, but here are my questions for when it is all said and done for Christopher, and anything other than yes/no will be taken as a no:

A) Will I (the non-paying member) be able to read any post (and associated thread) I've written up to now?
B) Will I be able to reply to the threads mentioned above?
C) Will I be able to read through the old threads in the OEM forums (example, arctic cat) or will that archive of information disappear for me at some point?
D) If I post a question regarding how to port my chaincase in the new member section, will it be moved behind the paywall?

I'm not sure why I should pay here when I can goto Snowandmud or BCR sites for free????

I couldn't agree more i will not be paying snowest for info that the users give for free i have been to BCR and Snowandmud i think snowandmud is the better place for now BCR is still new and just don't have to info at this point not to say they wont in time :face-icon-small-hap

There really is a difference between LIMITED and NONE.

A free non-paid member can read SOME of every single public thread on the entire site.

A free member can make SOME posts in every single public forum on the entire site.

But they will NOT have the same unlimited ability to do so as you do right now.

Define "SOME" please?

What differentiates between "SOME" and "NONE"?

How about an example of the difference in "SOME" and "NONE" ?

I believe if there is a truthful, real answer to this, some of us can decide whether we want to pay or pack sand.

If you want to be able to participate on the forums in an active and meaningful manner, you will want to be a premium member, its that simple.

The free membership will let people come into the forum, and get a pretty good feel for what it's all about. Do a little reading and a little posting and get their feet wet. But thats about it.

There are no hard set numbers for what they will be able to do or not do yet. Those will be set in the days/weeks to come.

Trust me on this, we are getting All the paid memberships we can handle right now.

This is exactly the reason we did NOT send out an e-mail or a PM to all the members.

I get heated just reading this. I can still understand the cost to keep the servers up and running, but I'm sure the money I paid to subscribe to Snowest should cover a handful of colored pages along with some online tech support. It's really too bad that it all had to go this route. I'm bummed.

The sad thing is it DIDN'T/DOESN'T HAVE TO if the right people ran it

Well...can only speak for myself here!

I paid premium...and happy I did so! :beer; :)

10 bones a year....not much at all! The friendships and help that this place has to offer is priceless...IMHO.

I have to agree with you here. The money I have saved from advice and the friends that I have made on here, well you can't put a price on that.

for those members who decide to not pay and move on..can they remove any post, pictures and vids they have posted on snowest before this day?I dont think snowest has any need of any sledding pictures posted..those are more personal I would think....
