Picked up my new 2011 Polaris RMK Assualt today. I was curious as to how close the dry weight was to the Polaris spec of 446 lb. Here is what I found using a Cat computerized trucking scale.

6960 lbs Truck+Trailer+Sled
6420 lbs Truck+Trailer

540 lbs in sled weight. Sled full of all fluids.

After doing some conversions all weights are in gallons.
Oil->Amsoil Dominator 2 Stroke 7.26 lb/gal capacity of .75 gal
-5.445 lbs
Coolant->9.33 lbs/gal capicity of 1.325 gal
-12.36 lbs
Chaincase Oil->.059 gallon capacity at +-7.5 lb/gal
-.527 lbs
91 Octane Gasoline->6.175 lb/gal capicity of 11.5 gal
-71.025 lbs

This brings a combined weight of -89.357 lbs for fuel/oils/coolant.

Total sled weight dry comes in at 451 lbs! This number is dependent on many things including the tolerances of the scale used and actual amount of oils in sled versus capicity levels but at +-451 lbs this puts the recorded dry weight VERY close to Polaris advertised 446 lbs. This calculation did not include weight of oil in shocks as a capicity could not be found. Actual weight should be around 449 lbs...

So...after posting this I called Cat scales to find out the tolerances of their machine. They are calibrated to +-20...Pilot shop said at that low of a weight they would go +- a few pounds. Both scaled weights are in increments of 20! I'm not a trucker, just seemed like a quick and easy way to get a weight. On the way to walmart for 3 bathroom scales unless somebody else has a better idea!

Lets us know how the bathroom scales turned out, I would think cheap ones with needle gauges would work the best, none of that high tech fandangle digitron stuff.

Bathroom Scales

New numbers are in using 3 common bathroom scales. They should be within +-1 lb at each after being zeroed.
Test 1
L-149lb
R-145lb
T- 248lb for a total of 542lb

Test 2
L- 147lb
R- 146b
T- 248lb for a total of 541lb

Test 3
L- 176lb
R- 155lb
T- 211lb for a total of 542lb

These three different test were all done with scales directly under spindles. Track scale was at about middle then progressively 6 inches towards the rear each time.

This puts the actual dry weight around 452 after subtracking 89.4 lbs in fluids...again extremely close to the original claim of 446. Between the ice scrathers, 1 set of wheels up front, and oil in the shock it wouldn't surprise me a bit if it was right at the 446 mark! I think it's safe to say Polaris was dead on.

Forgot about my tunnel stiffners having already been installed as well. All the little things add up.

Weights

Also the pro/assualts pack ~10lbs more fuel in the tank. Mines in the trailer and it is definately a player in the lwt game. Front "feels" like a normal sled but the arse end is light!

Hope you're working as hard at school as you are at weighing this machine Riley.

Just use a scale for weighing big game (deer,bear, etc) You can put the scale on a cherry picker and lift sled by the handle bars. You can pick one up at cabelas for 20 bucks and handle up to 550 lbs. They are pretty accurate to.
