engine temp help

Over the weekend we were riding the trees slower than usual. at some point we noticed the xm had puked some coolant and the temp gauge was high. looking at mine 12 it was also high. We packed some snow on the top of the exchanger and about 10 minutes later started them back up and the temp gauge was normal.

We determined that we were riding too slow through the trees and not spinning any snow into the tunnel.

My question is... has anyone tried water wetter or any other coolant additive to help with the high temps in spring conditions?

Are there any internal sensors that will shut the motor down to avoid damage in the event it gets too hot?

being new to the etec, we have never had this problem in the past, but never had more than a idiot light. Just trying to avoid any engine damage.

Thanks for the feedback.

sping riding best practice is to enjoy a few beverages the night before so youre hung over and dont start too early the next day.

let the sun get at that snow and soften it up for awhile before you get to it.

there are sensors that will tell you its too hot, yes

most dealers have little coolant temp guages you can get for under $100. they're pretty nifty and use a small battery so no wires anywhere.
