Yep, use a good ATF. I like the sythetic stuff, and you get a whole quart for a fraction of what the Polaris lube costs, and it is enough to do several sleds.

I put in ATF this time. Dealers around here puts in 10W-30 engine oil.
IMO, more important that the oil is not full of water and metal shavings than what type is used...

Same here ... tranny fluid and less shavings in the chaincase.

i pulled my dipstick and noticed metel shavings on the magnet and not much oil. If i pull the cover to clean the metal out do i need to buy a new gasket? or is it reusable?

Small metal shavings are normal. Chucks of a gear or chain are bad.

There should be a safe range on the stick. Keep oil level in safe range. It is not normal to loose lots of oil after one tank of fuel.

Switching to transmission fluid will have less shavings.

the gasket is re-usable. I did the same thing, bought two new gaskets ( we have 2 900's) and then drain, remove cover, clean out chaincase, re-install cover, fill with ATF. I changed the ATF again the next week just to ensure all the old gear lube is gone.

I still have the two new gaskets, not needed (yet)
