What is "decked"?

Decked is to machine the cylinder side of the case to remove material to lower the cylinder on the case.

what about 600 ves cylinders or do i have to do the same thing

600 VES cylinders will require the same procedure. 600 cyls are .100" taller than the 440's due to rod length/port timing. The 440's use a 122mm rod whereas the 600 uses a 128mm rod.

440 case with 122mm rod and 600 cyls requires the case to be decked/shaved/machined approx the height difference of the cylinder, give or take upon desired port timing specs.

Another way is to install a 600 crank with longer rods (128mm 600 rods) and build a spacer plate and gasket set up to make up the height change on the case.
