Long story short have a 07 m1k 162 with 2000 miles on it. Slp pipe kit, boondocker box, vents, clutching and geard. It has been the worst sled I have ever owned. Belt blower from day one 2nd ecu 3 pipe sensors hundreds of dollars in clutch parts motor mounts and the list goes on. I really like the way it handles. I can get a pretty good deal on a 09 M1k 162. Are the 09s that much better then the 07s? If I did get a 09 it would get geared down, can and 2010 seat. Is it worth it? What do you guys think? I was thinking of maybe getting a doo XP but I cant stand the way they handle.

I did the same thing last year and wow! Not even the same sled and my 07 ripped with slp pipe, beat 08's lighter riders ect.... the 09 stock would beat the piped 07. and the handling is completely different. 09 was the first 162 I could switchback up a hill like a 146. on the 07 when you thought you where stuck, you where, the 09 wont stop (track/tunnel rocks) I am replacing and adding motor mounts though to help with clutching. One bad thing.

an XP hasn't come close yet.

How long are belts lasting on your 09? I am so tired of clutching and blowing belts? If I got 400 miles to a belt I would be happy at this point!

when sled was stock I got 350 out of the first 060 and pulled a cord but I earned that one, Hit a hill 8 times back to back just to see what would happen. Belt still worked great just didn't want it coming apart and figured it would make a good backup belt. with slp pipe I then demolished 2 046 belts at 120 miles and a 100 miles. put on a 060 and its got 450 miles on it but worn out. I earned that one too. extra motor mounts help with belts and a good alignment.

An 09 wont guarantee you that. You can get the belt issue worked out if you want to spend the time.

Pm Smoothdawg. He had an 07 M1k SLP setup and now has a 09 M1k stock.

Have you thought about a 2010 M8 or had a chance to ride one? I have been extremely happy with mine so far. I also have an 07 M1000. It is setup strictly for the deepest fluffiest days only! It works great for those days, but I will be on my new HCR the rest of the time.

wont beat a 09 m1000 with slp pipe set, and he already has the pipe.

Maybe not straight up a hill or in a drag race... It will in about all others aspects. Guess it depends on what he wants it for. I'm not knockin the 1000, I'm just really impressed with the 2010 M8.

Drifter, if you have no interest in the new 8, then an 09 1000 is a huge refinement over the 07. All of the changes and upgrades are very functional and provide an excellent overall package.

actually, the only place it has a chance is in a drag race, my clutching isn't any good after 80mph, we put two well tuned slp piped 09 m1000, against 5 2010 m8's haven't beat the 1000's yet any where and a slp performance package 09 m8 that handed it to the 10's. They are great sleds though.

Money is the biggest reason for a 09 m1 verse 2010 m8. I can get a m1 for 3 thousand less.

I am not really a hillclimber I play in the trees mostly but being 230 pounds I can muscle the 1000 around. I find my 07 to be really easy to ride. If i do get the 09 it will probably be kept stock not even sure if I will even put a pipe on it.

The 09 M1000 is far superior to the 07. Absoloutely no doubt about it. Guys, if you are having belt trouble there is a simple cure posted on here many many times. Install the torque stop and x-tra motor mount. You can easily do it yourself and will have under 150 dollars in it. The 1000's are coming out of alignment under load causing your belt issues. Just do it! Buy the 09, vent it, check alignment, and install the above mods and you will be very impressed. Love the 09.
