Travis, is this the "updated" bolt? Is it the same length as the original? Any markings on the head?

Do you know the part #?

Dont waste your time with the bolt, yet gettin a new drive shaft

And you know this how?

So I need to make a decision about pressing new Avid drivers on. If what you are telling me is true, I should be waiting.

There are a lot of people in the process of putting their sleds together for the season...if you TRULY know something, then give it up and save a lot of us a bunch of extra wrenching.

I asked my dealer again a few days ago when my new bolt showed up and the service manager STILL hadn't heard anything from Yamaha about the bolt issue.

There has not been enough of an issue for Yamaha to issue and update or a recall. They are replacing the bolts on a case by case basis. If your dealer does not know about it have them call their Regional Technical Advisor in the "Who to Call" section of their dealer manual. The RTAs know about it.

Yamaha has upgraded to bolt again for the 2010 model. All the previous part numbers supercede so you can use any of these numbers. It should be a WARRANTY item that Yamaha will cover. They have been great for us to work with. The 2010 shaft is a bit different.

Talked with the store today, yamaha is aware of this fault, They thought it could be a fault in the making og the 08-09, the torque may be under the listed torque. Any news ?

++1. Pulled the drive shaft last night. Not sure why I was surprised then the bolt fell out of the chaincase, but it was rather shocking.

So I didn't see any confirmation on this, is there actually a tech bulletin? Figure I'll take it down to the shop later this week anyways, just to have them notify Yamaha of another case.

It is not a tech bulletin, but is covered under warranty. As you said, they just like to keep tabs on all reported cases.

Heres mine, replaced it with Yamaha's new bolt. The dealer didn't even know about this, I brought them pictures. In the past I had issues that it would stick in reverse, I think I solved that now.

All the bolt does is hold the spring in place while the cover is off. The bolt is useless, leave it out otherwise it will break again putting loose pieces in your chain case !!!!!!!!!!!!!
