HELP! Dead ECU, no codes, just dead!

I have a friend who bought a 2007 M8. we were riding a trail mid season last year and after stopping for a snack break, his sled was DEAD.
Nothing on the dash when pulling it over, nothing

We took off the shield on the frame that hides all of the wires up to the handlebars and found the fuel pump wires bare right where they go into the tank.
After towing it back and taking it to the dealer, He told us that the fuel pump wires had shorted out the ECU. fuel pump wires replaced and ECU replaced it ran fine.
It was summerised and garaged for the season, but when he got it out the other day to get it ready for winter the same problem happened, it is unresponsive like the ECU is fried again but this time the fuel pump wires are still brand new.

Has anyone had an issue like this? and if so how was it rectified?

I was thinking of replacing all of the copper wire on the sled, but if anyone has a better idea, we are open to it.
