All clutching, gearing, track, belt deflection, and rider the exact same and my 17 will hold tach great. My 18 pulls down to 7400 in long climb. Tried pulling a gram out of 18 and it still does it. Kinda bumbs me out!!
Anybody else experience this??

165 3”
Both sleds have the stiffer black secondary spring installed. Both have 2018 ramps, both have the lower engaging primary spring, both have BigJohn’s 16 gram pivot bolt installed, and both have the 18 gearing.
The 18 pulls down tach to 7400 after 10 second climb wide open. Tachs 8000 just fine if in and out of throttle boondocking.
Is a turd on straight pull tho.
Kinda wondering if the motor mounts on the 18 are softer and misaligning belt or the 18 just doesn’t make as much power??

What is a "long pull" ?
1,000ft? 2,000ft? or 500ft?

I have not climbed anything over 800ft. Have not noticed any change in rpm in a climb.

I have had lots of 30-60sec WOT pulls in fresh. Very consistent. Some days its 7,800-7,950, some days its 8,150 depending on the type of snow but it is consistent all day.

18 or 17? 154, 165, or 175? 2.5" or 3"?

How deep of snow are we talking?

Just trying to figure this thing out...

Check to see if your slipping in the secondary.. secondary will build up with rubber down low and then prevent back shift.. had the Sam thing happen to mine.. a heavier sec. spring2.5 grams per arm and a 47 helix has really changed things around..

But still sad that we have to do brps tuning for them.. after spending 18k

Hey fredw, are you using the black secondary spring? Running any different ramps?

I inspect and clean my clutches after every ride, I haven't had any build up on my clutches after the ride I noticed the RPM drop.

I think I'll see what Ski-Doo will do for updates before I start messing with the clutching this late in the year.

Sad thing is I traded in my axys for the 850 a couple weeks ago because I was getting sick of battling RPM issues...and yet here we are again!

I have the same problem with my 18, long pull and it drops down to 73-7400. Haven't had much snow to witness the problem before this.

Toss a stiffer secondary spring in. The stock one is too soft, does a terrible job of backshifting. Should fix you up after that. If not have the dealer check things out.

Read his original post. He says he has the stiffer black secondary spring. Are you guys thinking stiffer than that?

To the OP though you say you have Big John weights in. I think a phone call to him would be a good place to start.

From what I read though, I’d lean toward a touch too heavy. Or you could have 2 sets of dead springs...

I’ve been through a set of springs this season already in my 18.

You may not like my answer but, no two sleds a alike, what works in one may not for another. I know a couple or years ago we took several sled up to tune. It didn't matter what setups we put in all the other sleds, one worked on one but not the others.

You may want to check the RAVE valves and controller checked just to make sure they are working correctly? Imo.
