07 m1000, can you safely run 87 octane or does it need to be 91!!! I heard it runs better on 87 which would be nice it is a little cheaper.

If you read in your owners manual it tells you that it was desigiened to run on 87. I run 87 in our M7, M8, and M1000. no problems:beer;

87 or even 85 above 6000 feet. We have noticed good power gains by using lower octane fuel. This is using the STOCK HEAD ONLY!

What do you guys think of octane rating when running jaws twinns on the m-1000, Jaws says to run 91 octane but that was before the reprogram.

Kind of confuses me as to why a higher octane would hinder performance, especially when it supposed to compensate the timing with the pipe temp probe.

I guess I am no engine engineer, but still seems not right to me.

The cats are designed to run 87 and hence why they respond well to aftermarket heads when running 91 or more octane. Many complain about the lack of power on AC sleds from the factory but they do not think about the fact they are designed to run on 87 out of the box. If you are running a pipe or a head on any of them I would run 91 or higher octane. The pipe can make the motor run tighter and actually cause detonation even with the stock head if you do not run the higher octane.

I had a buddy who was only running the SLP single and can on his M1000 and forgot he had 87 in the tank. Needless to say his top end looked like someone shot it with a shotgun at the end of the day from the deto.
