Gearing suggestions

I have a 2000 Summit 700 extended to 151. Track is a 151x16x2. Track sprockets 9T (Came stock this way). What gears should I use? Or which ratio? I have 22/43, ratio:1.95, 74 chain. I am tempted to try 20/43 to keep the same chain. What do you guys run in these old Summits? Thanks

In my 01 800, I run 19/43. I also use a 151x16, however mine is a 2.25. Seeing as you're running a 700 rather than an 800 (I believe the power is pretty close on these engines anyway), and you're running a 2" track, 19/43 should work pretty well for you.

Edit: Just for the info, I'm using 9t sprockets as well.

Good to know! Sounds like I might not need to tinker too much with the gearing. Clutching from Big John was spot on with the 136x15x2. That's why I needed some info on gearing. I might try it with the 22/43 for a ride and then I will be able to tell if 21 is enough. If it's good for you I should be ok as well.

Really! Oh man now you got me confused to what I should do haha! I want to be ready for winter not tinker too much during the riding season. I thought about going to 20 to keep the same chain. Might be my best bet for now.

Gearing

You may want to look at 20/44 it uses the 74 chain. 2.2 ratio and will still go almost 90 mph. 20/43 will go over 90 and use the 74 Chain. 19/43 needs the
72 Chain.

That is a good choice and will still use the 74 Chain.

Track is a 151x16x2? But you say clutching was spot on with a 136, have you changed clutching ? SHR always match's clutching and gearing with track length plus customer riding preferences and rider weight. If you have no power adders with your 700, I would imagine he is going to recommend 20/45 (Which is what I have done on some 700's here at our riding elevations (7500+). Not knowing your weight and riding elevation, I would run that, or 21/45 if you are lighter and ride at a lower elevation.

Rule of thumb; " If you run one businesses clutching, run their gearing recommend."

Gears

19/44 and 20/44 are only 2% different than 20/45 so either will give good results. Would you suggest 20/44 unless the elevation is higher than 6500 ft
(2000 meters)? What is the elevation you ride at in PQ?

Less than 1000 feet everywhere I ride actually. Usually in Northern Ontario. Big John had all the info required when he sold me the clutch kit. Emailed him again today to see if he'll get back to me.

I wanna keep my reverse on that sled so a bottom gear for mechanical reverses are really hard to find at a decent price so 19/44 seems pretty good for my application. Thanks for all the input!

44 is the only gear there is for mechanical reverse. There is no other option. 19/44 gives the most dogleg with a 74 chain on a ZX. I have heard a slightly used 72 will fit if you slide the gears and chain straight on the shafts. Haven't tried it myself so not sure if it will work.

Not that great for tuning those reverse then hahaha! One option for bottom gear? I will have to stick with that for now. I don't put that much mileage on that sled every winter. Should be perfect for me. I need that reverse!!! Tired of breaking my back pulling that thing out of trailers or in sheds. Thanks for the info though. Learning more and more about that sled.
