Kuna Idaho to Elk City Idaho..
Redline

I have been running redline in all my sleds and it does keep the raves clean and the exh has a sweet smell also...but the price is so expensive unless you buy it by the case...

For what it is worth, I just had a top end put in my 03 700; it was at ~122psi at 6000'. Not AWFUL, but not quite as happy as I'd have liked.

Used 99 670x pistons - two rings vs one.

End result - very happy with it. Not a TON more power, but some (and admittedly, compression had not fallen into the "losing big power" range). Starts easier. Idles better. Reverse engages without babysitting the throttle. Smokes less.

Overall, very, very pleased, and the 670x pistons certainly _seem_ like a good idea. I guess two rings = more friction, but more durable, and the top ring is allegedly more adept at holding pressure. Dunno, but the end result is very good.

My "Y" pipe was splitting, too - maybe something to look at while you're in there.

Downside? The cord is harder to pull;). I like compression!

Edit - sled has about 4300 miles on it. First 3700 or so were in the hands of a rental shop, who used Walmart Super Tech oil. We get all worked up about oils, what to use, what not to, blah blah blah - the Super Tech seems to have done an at least "ok" job on this motor. I switched to Redline or BRP Synthetic, but.....

Edit#2 - my pistons looked virtually the same as yours, with less crap on the domes. Powervalves were clean.

Yeah the guy I bought it from ran Blue marble. The build up in my y pipe and on my heads, pistons, and raves was bad. I opted to go to the RKT kit hoping to pull a few more ponies:face-icon-small-hap

Huh. Blue Marble, eh? Interesting. How many miles on it?

I thought about RKT, it certainly seems good, but mine has enough power for what I want it to do, and if I can get ANOTHER 4k out of it (I doubt I'll own this that long), I'll be really happy. I'm sure RKT is good, I just know what stock(ish) _can_ do, and I have zero complaints, so.....

Interested to hear the results!

said he rebuilt the motor the year before I bought it so about 1000 miles im guessing the cross hatching was still noticeable on the cylinders. I have broke down allot of Polaris and Yamaha motors never seen build up like that in a motor ever. Im just putting the drop in kit with the head nothing too big It will be my wifes sled hopefully next year

my 2 cents

I just finished my 02 Summit 800 overhaul and mine looked just like that on tear down. I had 94 and 112 comp. The only oil ever put in the sled is Amsoil Dominator, it made it to 3400 miles and I replaced the pistons with a dual ring topp end kit from MCB Performance. These pistons look just like the SPI pistons. They sent a Off brand head gasket and I used it. Time will tell, I only have 40 miles on it but plan a three day ride this weekend.

Holy carbon build up, you'll be running much better with the dual ring drop-in pistons. You prolly need to adj. your oil pump down a little. I know the 02 came with the oil pump set too rich, was part of the updates for that year. No way your pistons should look like that, you should have piston wash showing coming off your intake ports, washing the edge of the piston clean, with some light carbon buildup on the crowns.

Little confused on your last post:dizzy:, but try Big John at Sled Head Racing or RKT for 700 dual-ring pistons.

I bought a sled last year I checked the vin with 2 local dealers and they confirmed the vin was an 02 800. But I never looked at the motor tag (stupid me) So I ordered a kit to a 02 800 from MCB and when I got them I went to do the ring gap check and the ring wouldn't fit in the cylinder knew right away the guy I got it from had switched the motor out to an 02 700 motor instead of the 800. The guys at MCB where awesome overnighting me a kit for a 700 and I am shipping the 800 kit back.
