sounds like you might have a cable issue, the throttle on my 10' was very easy to operate, give everything a good inspection and maybe a little lubrication

replace the cable. you can do it for under 20.00
then re route it around the other side to keep it from getting baked by the pipe and cover it with foil tape by the pipe. it has a plastic liner inside and when you get it too hot it will drag on the metal outer part.
