2006 900 fuel pump in new style tank

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if the 06 900 pump and assembly will fit into the newer style tank? Want to put the new style seat and tank on my sled and haven't found any info if this will work or not.

Thanks

As for a direct bolt in, no it wont. The 05 & 06 900s fuel pump enters the front of the tank, whereas the newer fuel pumps enter the tank from the top. As to whether or not you could Frankenstein something up, plug the upper hole and drill a new one, I have no idea, my guess would be no as I believe there is a metal flange affixed to the tank. I would look more into if you could swap out the fuel pressure regulator on a newer fuel pump & tank assembly to the 116 PSI the 06 requires. I honestly do not know if that swap is possible or not, perhaps someone else know more?

Fuel Pump Ratings

You might just compare fuel pump pressure / volume.

Maybe the newer IQ 800 tank and pump would work just fine for a 900.

Might also compare a 600 HO pump.

The issue arrises when you have a 2006.... the system pressure is 8 bar (about 116 psi)... double that of a 2005 at 4 bar (about 58 psi) , or any other year of CFI 2007-up.

While the airtex pump in the 2005/2006/7 was the same... they could be pushed to the 8 bar pressure... but were slightly more likely to fail, at 8-bar, compared to the 05/07 sleds that ran the same pump at half the pressure/amperage.

The 2008 and up featured a completely different PFA (Pump Flange Assembly)... and a Walbro pump that cannot be pushed to 8-bar... not even close.

The tanks also do not fit into the hoop without re-work.

A 2005 900, with the 4-bar pressure, would be a simpler task.

All of the 600 CFI sleds run the Walbro pump except for the 2007... which runs the Airtex.

The 2007 RMK/Dragon tanks have the "RAW" look seat... but this is pretty much the same as a 900 with just a rear seat support rather than the plastic wedge-box.

A 2008-up fuel tank will run the 2008 - 2015 RMK seats but you cant run the 2008-up Walbro pump at 8-bar.

The only work-around that I can think of would be to somehow graft the airtex pump onto the 2008+ PFA Then you would install a dummy plug into the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) hole in the flange of the PFA and then install the 2006 8-bar FPR onto some high pressure hose in the tank...and connect the return line/feet to that...making sure that the feet lay flat on the tank floor front and rear.

The 2005/6/7 RMK's/Dragons mounted the FPR inline on the return hose inside the tank... the 2008+ mounted the FPR directly in the flange of the PFA.

Hope this helps.
