Toying with the idea of moving from my XM 174 to an 850 154" thinking it will be just crazy rowdy, which to me is sounds damn fun. Anyone have first hand experience with a 154" and how they ride, climb, sidehill competed to the longer tracks? Thanks in advance!

Went from a 15 T3 174 to a G4 154 3" i will never ever own a sled with a longer track again. I ride steep and deep in montana Idaho Wyoming and Washington all year averaging about 40 days of riding a year. 154 is way more fun.

I feel like I might share the same opinion..... Any issues being "too wheelie" (If there is such a thing lol) Or slowly sidehilling through tight techy spots...?

I have a 154” and a 165” and like the 165” better. Would recommend the 165.

I've ridden 154 since 08 love it especially with a BB but I have a 2 1/2 in. track on it and it does weelie but not bad actually really fun. That being said a buddy has a 17 154 3in. And that thing weelies way more than mine even with mine having more power. I got a 18 165 and it rides like my 08 154 just alot easier lol. If I went back to a gen 4 154 I'd get it in a 2 1/2 in. track.

I’ve seen your videos I would stick with a 165 are larger for your size. The 175 gen4 is more playful then the 174 Xm.

Thanks AK, I should have mentioned above that I'm 6ft5 230lbs..... Funny thing is if I got a new sled Id either do the 175 or the 154 lol. Either all the way one way or all the way there other... .

Depends on what you like. I had a 154-3" last year and will never go back but everyone is different. It was a wheelie, trenching monster. If you do go 154, consider a 2.5 not 3". I went 175, I like a more planted feel and want to ride more in control in tight terrain. At the end of the day its all about having fun........whatever you prefer to ride.

154 requires some serious skid modification. They are wheelie monsters. I'm trying the lockout Tom's skid for this year. I had Tom's with Z motion last year and it still had problems wheeling. I would say you'll struggle on deep days too because of your size Mike. I have to work harder to keep up with Jeremy on deep days and I'm half your size. You're more than welcome to try my 154 if we meet up.

I've had a 154/3 since it came out and after one ride I moved the limiter strap up one hole, to make it even more wheelie-ish (aka responsive to throttle and weight position). It's a party sled, even in just a few inches of fresh. Not the best for straight up pokes on the steepest faces, but you can make it work, once you figure out how to ride it. Definitely more athletic. And I disagree about the 2.5" tracks. My backup sled is an XM w/ a 2.5 and while it's fun to spin the track, and sometimes even an advantage, but not better on balance. I care the most about track performance when it's deepest. When I'm breaking trail in the woods and just barely making it, the paddle makes a huge difference. Would never go back. My best riding buddy has an '18/165 and it's plenty fun, but not the same. It's easier to hold a sidehill on it, but that's not my highest priority I'm 5'10"/170# though, so maybe the 165 would feel like a 154 to you.

Sorry for the thread drift. I heard about the Tom's lockout but couldn't find anything specific. Does it lockout the Tmo, the rear track shock (like the Fox shocks on the Cats) or both? Thanks!

Thanks Chad, good info. I think if anything Ill get an XM or gen 4 154" as a backup sled. I just love my Xm too much to swap out right now I think.

It just locks the rear shock. Instead of having the 1,2,3 like a QSL it has 1,2,L. I have yet to ride it though. Waiting on snow...

I'm 6' 3" 240lb and ride a '17 850 154 3". Just a little tweaking in the right spots and rear skid works great, no terrible wheelies, no trenching, just hooks up good. We ride nothing but tight trees in the steep and deep and the 154 is more fun and more maneuverable than the longer tracks. Get the 154 and then load up and come over ride east side with us, you'll love it.

I would love to get an edit/Vlog in this year heading to meet some people in a different area.

Are you willing to share what your “little tweaks” are? :)

I’m gonna ride it stock for a bit, see how much I hate it. Or love it!

My last sled was a 154 3” and I loved it. With some minor tweaks (lower bars, adjustable limiter strap) XM chassis tho, 2016 T3

I’m about 60# lighter as well, for whatever that’s worth.

I will report back in a few days.
