I think that all you have to do is change a wire on the pcm and possible the bars?I read about it here on snowest.should be able to find it.

On a m1000 you can do the wire trick, But the ecu needs to be flashed to the 09' & up. 07'-08' M8 will need all thats listed above but will work.

Was told stators are different also.

Hmmmmmm........When I looked up the stators and timing coils they all(07-09) used the same part number.

Now I have to look again.............Cause I'm doing almost the same thing. Putting an 09 ECU on an 08 and doing a little wiring (2nd ECU plug change and reconnect reverse and other signals) I am also using a CCU instead of reg to get the DC for my fuel pumps.

Chuck, I think there might be a few subtle circuit changes in plugs for the hood(speedo) and possibly the handlebar harness. Call me and I'll look it up for you.

I think that the oil pump needs to be changed as well. Might want to double check p/n to verify

ski-laxn, there was a thread on here and you are correct, an o8 pump will not pump oil running backward, bdx was on here and said they had some extra 09 pumps for half price of a new one. do a search i cant find it right now but if you find the one i was looking at it will have the part number differences and all. i think the button on the bars and everything stays mostly the same if i remember correct, there was someone on that same forum selling kits for the wire trick with directions also. wish i had more time to find it to help but it is on here somewher

I could make it work I have everything off a 09. But sounds like selling all the 09 parts is a better idea.

Aw comeon Chuck, you're used to taking em apart. Just gotta put a little bit of one back together.....LOL

I'll let ya know how mine turns out. Gotta test the pump and see what to do with it. Got everything else.

I did it to my '08-M1000. All it takes is the lightweight DD from BDX (one of the best upgrades I have done), '09 ecu reflash, reverse helix and a $1 wire. Piece of cake.............I wouldn't run it in reverse for more than a few seconds, but when do you ever anyways? I don't worry because I premix.

I know plenty that have it done and working. all you need is a 09 or newer reflash, a wire and a 09 style helix. You should put in the 09 DD also but you don't have to.

The only way to convert an earlier m8 is to put the ecu from an 09 on it along with a 09 wiring harness.

The reason you can do it on the earlier m1000 is because the bulletin that reflashed the 07-08 to 09 map had the writing included in it. You need to buy a $2.00 jumper and the 07-08 m1000 will have electronic reverse.

There ins't a reflash for the m8.

I thought I read that this doesn't work on the 2007 M1000 ECU even with the re-flash? If it does someone please let me know as I already have a Diamond Lite drive and the 09 ECU update on my 07.

If the 07 has the 09 flash and the jumper it will work. Call push turbo for the jumper.
