2) Engine

The MY 2012 cylinder is a complete new part number... Polaris was a bit vague with details (understandably). The only way we are really going to be able to find out what the changes will be to put a 2011 and 2012 on the bench and compare them this season next to each other

The fuel injectors have been changed and I understand that they are not retrofittable onto the 2011 cylinders as the machining is not the same on the injector bosses.

The Y-Pipe and silencer (can) were changed and are retrofitable... the reason for this was a supplier change. They are retrofitable. The pipe remains the same 2011/2012.

The 2011 and 2012 ECU flash are different, but I do not believe they will be able to run the 2012 flash. I think it is related to the injectors.

The oil pump is different in part number, but is functionally the same.

Cylinder head remains the same since 2010.

Throttle bodies are the same.

Cases are the same as 2011.

Pistons are the same as 2011

Crankshaft is the same as 2011...though connecting rod kits are now available.

Essentially the 2011 and 2012 motors would only be interchangeable if you had a complete new motor and flash.

Am I the only one that finds this intriguing?

I was watching the videos on youtube from polaris industries and one of those was about the how the spindles have changed from 2011 to 2012.

As far as I have seen and heard... there is no change for the spindles from 2011 to 2012 for the RMK/PRO-RMK but I could be wrong.

There was, I believe, mention of the 2011 spindle design refinement in a promo vid from last season (2011 MY) .

Do you have a link to the video that you could post up?

The 2011 and 2012 ECU flash are different, but I do not believe YOU will be able to run the 2012 flash ON THE 2011 MACHINES, THERE WAS NOT A MAPPING RELATED ISSUE WITH THE 2011 . I think THE ECU FLASH CHANGE is related to the injectors.

The Pro was purpose built for deep snow, cooling is not a issue in these conditions. If you ride more hard pack and trails get the standard RMK and the cooling issues will be gone. If you want stiffer shocks get the Assault.

If none of the above suite your style then that is what the aftermarket companies are for.

C'mon now... you guys don't ride in the spring? Do you have two sleds??? The Pro needs some help if it's gonna be your only sled PERIOD! And yeah, I know how to use scratchers dmkhnr, LOL!

And the shocks... REALLY? You guys are happy with them??? If the trail to the mtn was whooped out in the least they would bottom severely and I only go 175! Maybe all the rest of you have smooth highways to get to the steep and deep? :face-icon-small-con The valving needs to be more progressive at the end of travel. And yeah, the aftermarket guys are making a killing off the Pro! To make this sled the sled I "thought" I was getting I'll need to pump $2500 into her for shocks, head and FTX Cooler. Not all of us fell in love with our Pros (though they certainly have potential)!

I haven't had issues in the spring, but here in Colorado we had snow into June. Obviously I have to run scratchers most of the time in the spring. I'm really good about kicking snow in when I stop too.

I agree on the shocks. At first I thought they were great, but they are just a ton better than the Dragon shocks. The stock coil overs do a good job of letting just about anyone put the Pro on it's side and balancing easily. But I will have $2000 into my shock package by November. How many other stock sleds have great shocks? Maybe some of the AC's that come with Float's but I'm not happy with just the Float's (yeah mh...I know some are better valved than others!).

I ride in the spring... In California, at 7-10,000 feet in 60-75 degree heat.

Yes, in those situations, I find the stock cooling system to be lacking on the PRO even with the standard snowflap and scratchers.

I also find the stock suspension on the PRO to be an excellent performer. For hardcore riders, huckers/jumpers/mougul-pounders ... the Assault shock package is even better.

There is a small group of people out there that fit solidly outside of the norm... Some of them can be taken care with springs and a revalve... while others can really use the features of a quality aftermarket shock.

Mark Holz, who is a died in the wool Fox shop with an undisputed level of chassis setup experience over years with some of the best mountain sleds out there... He believes strongly in the Walker package and how well it works... which is why, even though the profit margin is really not there like on shock sales, he has come up with an effective re-valve program for the sled.

Just like a tailored suit... a tailored (custom valved/sprung) set of shocks just "fits" better.

GMan, since you change the shocks out on your sled and ride in spring conditions...Why did you get the Pro as compared to the std RMK with the front tunnel/bulkhead heat exchanger installed?

Please don't take this the wrong way... It is my sincere wish that your sled exceeds your desires and gives you the kind of ride characteristics that you want in your sled.

The Walker Shocks are a good shock package on the PRO, IMO... the adjustability is excellent with just the preload changes and the valving can be set up however you want it to feel. If you need more spring rate, then you can get an inexpensive spring to help with that... if you get the spring and are a light weight rider... you should probably get into a revalve so that the rebound with the increased spring force is controlled.

Gman086: There's no chance I'll be satisfied with re-valving the current shocks as I'm coming off Tom's Evol R suspension on my Summit and I ride aggro; I need a progressive shock.

You sound like a very aggressive rider to me, so it is quite possible that you are better served with a stiffer spring (you claim in other posts to repeatedly bottom your skid) even though you are a lighter rider. If you are a lightweight aggressive rider and need more spring rate... then you will need to change rebound damping (valving) to control the return rate of that stiffer spring... Just ask Tom Dines about that one.

IMO, this gives you other options than a $2500 set of shocks. The Holz custom revalve program is only $75 per shock... and that includes a full service if you 2011 guys are considering it.

In the end, if you really need to have more adjustment as well as a firmer ride with control over that "firmness"l.. then you fit into the 5% - 10% of the RMK owners that are best served with the aftermarket offerings. At that point... Selling your stock shocks will make some Std RMK owner very happy and you will be into the aftermarket shocks for much less as the sale of the stockers will take a huge bite out of the price.

In another post, you say that you have not tried a spring or valving change on the Pro RMK... but you know that you will not be satisfied with the results. Kind of self fulfilling way to look at it.

I'm pulling on a set of X1's the day my sled arrives, how strange is it that the shocks were done before the sled was even built?

My mistake. I didn't notice the first time watching it that they were talking about a Rush not the RMK. Now going back and looking closer the 11 spindles are the same as the ones on my '12 Pro in my garage.

Well looking at the supplemental owners manual on my '12 it calls for NGK GR9A-EG and thats the numbers that are on the plugs in it. I tried to find some spares at work today and couldn't come up with any, I even checked on NGK's website and its not coming up.

Mountainhorse - You still doing the 600 Pro? What do you have in mind for your shocks? You a tad smaller (in weight) than I am but I bottom my Walker Evans out on small stuff. Just ridding hard through the mounds will led me to bottom out. I was afraid a revalve wouldn't be enough. I have the Exit's (X1's) and they might be a little heavier, but wow...they soak up everything I can throw at them.

11's were BPR9ES NGK's.

I can't wait to see one on the scale to see if there was an increase in weight! Also didn't I read that they changed the silencer?

The pro comes with scratchers, I don't see how you would have a heat problem. Put them down when your on setup snow conditions or on the road. If you see your temp gauge climbing this means your not throwing snow on the rear cooler and the scratchers need to be down.

If you ride dry fluff, or have to ride low speed crusted (e.g., whooped through the trees) with no ability to jump off and get to deeper snow, prepare be disappointed, and watching your temp gauge closely, with the Pro, not the std. The scratchers need some speed, and fluff doesn't count. JMPE.

Others do, too. I first boiled it down to a different injector design driving new cylinders, and without changes to the head or piston this made the most sense, but maybe there's some port changes happening, too. I'd guess the injectors are being changed for either cost, reliability, or commonality with the 600's. Or is this a platform for getting Bosch into the vendor pipeline for a 2013 DI motor change? Dunno.

HMM... good catch!!, that is a completely new plug for NGK...Might just be a proprietary plug for Polaris.

That is the plug in the new 2012's SB/RMK's.

Something to dig into for sure.
