I am new to this area and have some friends in Denver that said this would be a good destination to ride. They were going to look into some options for lodging but was wondering who can help us out to find a decent location to crash. We would like to be close to food and gas. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

It's legal to ride your sled in town and there is a groomed trail from town that goes to the groomed trail system.

There are lots of good places to stay in Grand Lake, but I'm partial to The Rapids Lodge (rapidslodge.com, 970 627 3707), which my family owns. We're running some nice Winter Specials on rooms and suites right now.

You can also call or go on the website for the Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Good luck!

Wife and I have stayed at http://gatewayinn.com/ multiple times. Nice rooms some with balconies or fireplaces overlooking lake, outdoor hot tub under the stars. Restaurant and bar in hotel, (we've only had drinks and bar food). Right on the trail, gas across the intersection, downtown's only a 2 minute sled ride away.

If you're looking for a lively action packed winter town, Grand Lake in winter is not the place. However if you want a slower pace and want to escape the crowds it's a great place to visit. http://grandlaketrailgroomers.com/ does a great job of grooming, many trails groomed nightly.
