2001 Skandic cut out problem

Trying to troubleshoot a random ignition cut-out problem that has been happening on my Skandic for years now. It starts up and runs fine but randomly shuts down. One unique symptom is that when it cuts out, it will not restart until the motor completely stops. Then it will instantly restart fine - either electric start or pull. Seems to do this more when cold but it can happen when warm as well. Seems like the CDI is shutting down almost like a fail-safe condition. Then it apparently resets but only after the magnito stops. If I'm coasting down a hill the ignition will not fire at all until motor stops completely. I never have trouble firing it right back up. It's not related to kill switches as those would not require the motor to stop if there was an intermittent problem there.

I'm wondering about a screwy low oil sensor? or hi temp sensor? or?

Any ideas?
