2005 800 switchback engine help

C
I have a 2005 800 switchback and I seized the motor due to a crank seal/bearing on the clutch side. After stripping down the engine and doing some research the engine is from a 2003 700 classic touring sled that the PO installed before I bought it. I am looking to go back to the 800 switchback engine.
I am wondering if anywhere online sells crate motors?
or what are my other options? not many scrap yards around here where I live.

its the same bottom end as the 800 so you could probably rebuild it with 800 rods, pistons, cylinders and heads, from e-bay or the forums. your 700 head cover should work. double check the part numbers for everything on babbits parts finder or the like.
id consider keeping it 700, i think the rods are slightly bigger? and you already have them and the 700s last a lil longer.

Its not that simple. The case would have to be machined for the longer stroke of the 800 crank and for the 800 cylinders to fit the 700 case.

2000.00 + shipping for the motor, bored carbs, pipes, and ecu. The motor was rebuilt about 150 miles ago. New crank with the pto wide bearing, new rings, seals, gaskets and bearings. About 185-200+ hp depending on setup.

Yes you carbs will work and yes you would need an ecu for an 800.

Ebay has used 800 edge motors popping up frequently. Expect to tear it down and upgrade things though. Add a new PTO end bearing, new upper piston rod bearings and new rings. Naturally you will be replacing the seals, diaphragms and gaskets as well. It would also be good to drill out the oil drain hole that goes to the PTO bearings, that the factory never installed. the 04 and 05 engines with PERC and DET are similar. 03 may not have DET or PERC. 02 has no PERC, no DET and no compression release hole and are a bitch to pull start, but the parts can be interchanged to bring it up to 05 standards. There is an 02 800 edge engine on EBAY right now.
