i think the VholdR is the best for the money and has insane pic quality
but if you want one that gets the job done get the HERO cam its $200 and the cheapest one i found
 
check out oregon scientific. check out the specs and the video ,then the price. i picked one up cheap . figured i`d get this to see if this is what i really want to do. it`s not the smallest, but for a first camera what the hey. let me know.

I have an Oregon Scientific. Here is a test vid on it.



I have used it a few times but when its deep the camera gets covered. Battery life is the other problem in the cold conditions.

I use a lithium battery and it works fine. I can fill the memory card completely with intermitten use with no problem. Also, there was a thread on hear a while back about this camera and some ideas to stop the snow build up on the lens.
