Wife buying bigger sled - good choice?

'K guys. I'm the wife. I'm selling my '04 600 Edge chassis that I bought a few years ago and looking at an '06 700 RMK with about 500 miles on it because other ladies say the IQ chassis is easier to handle (takes less muscle) than the Edge and I need a little more power. The guy who owns it added SLP pipe and V Force 3 reeds (dunno what reeds are for ). I think the rest is stock except the handlebar risers. It's EFI.

Does anyone know if there were problems with those with anything? I'd hate to get rid of a good sled for one with "issues."

Blue Fluff, Do not and I repeat do not buy an 06 700 RMK, it was only built for 1 year for a reason. Issues are all you will have plus the fact that it weighs 150LBs more than your edge. I'd either stick with what you have or buy an 07 or later RMK. The IQ chassis is phenominal, just not the 05-06 700 or 900.

Fluff

That particular sled is a little heavy!! I'd look for a raw chassie 07' 600 or 700 155"

You'd be super happy!! My better half loves her 600, and the efi 700 is awesome!! Both are pull and go like he11 sleds.
The newer 600 has lots of power, and yes the chassie makes it feel like it has even more. Super lady friendly!! IMO :D

I agree..try to even find a 08 or newer because polaris did changes with spindles and stuff that really helps them handle better. If you get a chance..try and borrow an 08 or 09 600 rmk ho 155 or a 700-800 dragon or rmk and see what you think of them..my son has a 08 600 ho 155 and I have an 08 dragon 800 and both are a riot to ride..the little fuel injected 600 might just surprise you with how good it goes compared to your 600...

I love the 700/900 rmks...

BUT...

I second what they say above...

Go with a 600 or 700 CFi raw chassis... you wont be sorry!

The 2006 700 is less expensive for a reason...you need to do a lot of mods and updates to get it running well and they are heavy.

Look for a low mileage 2007 Dragon 700, wicked sled!!

I don't know what price range you're trying to hit but if you have the means an 08 600 is a great choice in my opinion. If you go with the carb version you can save some $. I ride one in a 144 and really like it (yes I take a lot of heat about riding a "Chick sled" but it does everything I want to do). My daughter loves riding it too.
It's easy to pull start, carves like a dream and is just fun & easy to ride.

I would definitly go with an 07 or newer 600 or 700. Either would be just fine.lots of power and handle great. Those 700's run fine but as the others said they were heavier and were a little hard to steer....just what you were trying to get away from with your wife.

ok, to beat a dead horse a little more.
I would pass on the 06 sled.
Get an 07 or newer.
The 07 600 has 120hp
the 07 700 has 140hp.
The 04 600 your coming off of is around 100hp. So either the 07 600 or 700 is going to be an improvement in HP and the chassis improvment is HUGE. My wife rides the 07 dragon (with the holz easy steer spindles) and loves that sled. I couldn't dynamite her off that sled.

one year motor would be enough for me to say no, if it breaks you will probably have to by new parts for the motor, spend the little bit extra for a 07 or newer

OK, great advice. Thanks guys. I'll start saving for an 07 and up.

I had a question to those of you who suggested Dragons.

My understanding was that the Walker Evans shocks are a pain to dial in and you can't adjust them out riding, and that the only diff between the RMK and Dragon is those shocks (and they charge more for the WE shocks).

I have Ryde FX now and think those are on the 07 and 08 RMKs, right? That's the only reason I was steering away from the Dragon, but maybe the issue is easier than I think?

Also when you're talking about the raw chassis, how is that different than the IQ?

Alright Guys, (chickens!!LOL), I'll take one for the team!!

How big are you Fluff?? Ok don't answer that!! Sorry!! Sorry!! Sorry!!

My wife is approx 5'10" and 135lbs, Shes able to throw the ryde fx with the white springs around very well!! You might look at the walkers if your a little bigger but I myself am 205lbs, 225lbs all geared up and when I rode my 08' 700 the white spring ryde fx without the sway bar was awesome!! Very easy to control and throw around!! I also saved the money with the rmk and loved it just fine!! And the raw chassis is lighter and does not use the outer edges to run the coolant!! Way better design and it has alot more advantages.

BTW Sorry please forgive me!!! :face-icon-small-dis

Ha, ha. I couldn't care less if you know what I weigh!!! I'm 5'5" 142 lbs (pretty strong for a girl I'm told - comes from changing irrigation pipes, stacking and splitting firewood, etc, :D)

I took my sway bar out of the Edge (in one piece!) and it didn't seem to make that much diff, but then I only rode a couple times in spring snow with it out. But I hear there's a big diff with the sway bar out of other sleds.

P.S. Tell your wife she needs to eat! And BTW, I'm from Careywood.

Sounds like a good ol MT girl!!! I'm originally from Shepherd Mt, and my Mother owns the Old Farm Kennels just down the road from you in Florence.
BTW, I looked at your personal page and nice B-Day, mines the 7th of March!!
Good luck finding a sled!!
Look me up for a bumper when you get one!!
Thanx

technically the '06 and the raw are both i.q. chassis, but the raw is far superior in ride and agility. You will find that removing the swaybar on these machines doesn't help near as much as it did on your old sled. Also you will be just as happy on the rmk as on the dragon, and the price of the rmk 600 is very reasonable. You will love it compared to the edge!

Okay time to sound like a salesman------ The early IQ's 05-06,700&900 were great sleds, always get you home and polaris stood behind the recalls, still do. Also in 2006 the start of a great begining for polaris in my eyes was the 600 rmk 144". these sleds took one hand on the rope and another on the throttle start, but were awesome sleds in every other way. Then came the RAW chassis for 07 in a 600rmk 144"or 155" track and also the 700dragon 155",these were really awesome sleds. The carb models[600] still need two hands to start but not quite as often. The 700 dragon is efi ,and as noted 140 hp. which got the 800 summit boys a second look special when a girl passed them. Then for 2008 polaris introduced the same previous line up and include a efi 600 rmk 155" model [very easy to start ] and also the 800rmk in 155" or 163". Also for 2008 the 700 was 155" or 163". To answer your ? the earlier 600 is a good buy, but for more power and efi get a700.:)
