Im looking to upgrade my 7 year old to a 340 or possble other size. My question is the 340 chassis smaller then say the trail 500s? Its so hard to find a newer 340 but I see a lot of 500s for cheap.

The older indy lite are smaller and are great for smaller kids i have my 7 year old on a 97 indy with a 1-1/4 133 track and it will go anywhere with a small kid on it.

This was when my daughter was 8 on the stock Indy Lite compared to my 2010 RMK. I have since long tracked it to a 136 x 1.25, huge difference where it will tractor to now. Electric start and plastic skis make this a favorite for the kids.

Indy Lite

I have a couple of 340's my kids have outgrown on CL in Seattle. One is 98 and the other is a 94 GT 2-up. Unfortunately they both have stitches in the hoods but are good runners. You can search Indy Lite in Seattle craigslist if you are interested. I would avoid the 500's just because they are so much heavier than the lite's unless you enjoy doing a lot of heavy lifting because the kids get stuck a lot!

I think the Lite and Doo Freestyles $$$ are the only 2 relatively modern smaller machines.
Our kids were/are on full size 380 Doo and 550 rmk because there isn't much out there for smaller machines and we generally ride all day.

For a backyard/trail burner for little kids if I couldn't find a lite id be looking for the old Yamis.
Good kids sleds are getting more scarce every year. I bet Cat and Poo could crank out some lightweight M or Pro 340-440 fan sleds that would be big enough for back east beginner sleds and kids mountain machines out here.

My kids are actually more comfortable on our M and Pro sleds than the old iron. Good footholds, narrow seats, easy predictable steering.
