I just bought an 05 900 from our local dealer...

2,073 miles and they put in a new '06 crank, top end, mag side cylinder, and stator...

Have you had your crank runout checked? if it is over .004" then it needs to be replaced, .004" is the maximum limit for a Polaris crank to be out of true.

bought my 05 new and annually re-torque and check clutch alignment carefully. I have 2100 miles on it and have ran NOS on it since new. Has great compression, pistons visually look good. Crank run out is tight so moving forward and turbo'ing it now, so will see how long its going to last.:beer;

knoba..

sounds like you got a good maintainance history if your getting good performance from your 900 and no issues..

depending on what you have replaced or maintained...keep doing the minimum and youll be set for a while..

incase you havent done somethings..here is a few things to check before this season..

-front motor mounts...check to see if they are shot (you must remove the motor, stick mounts in vice and pry back and see if the rubber is broken...if it is..replace with 06 mounts.....OR get a set of Compfusion motor mounts...best investment for your 900 you will ever make..

-replace your clutch bolt and torque to 96ft lbs...AND send your primary into get balanced
-if your motor is out, replace all mount bolts with grade 8 bolts
-check your bushings in your clutch and replace springs in BOTH clutches..

keep up the good work and ride that 900 like it should be....(father then everyone else ;))

Im around 3000miles. I know im over 2400. I tore my motor down to do some...."adjustments" and found that I was near the end of my chain with the pistons. Both had HORRIBLE scoring. Im honestly not sure how I didn't drop a skirt or something. Im just glad I caught it in time. It was never ran low on oil while I owned it. (second owner). Always ran the VES gold (never again but that a WHOLE different story). Its an 06 also.

for what its worth

Nolan, Do you know for sure what the cause of the scoring was? Was your oil pump originally set correctly so you were using enough oil? Also, more along the lines of the new 800 motor problems, is it possible that the 900 motors have e lean spot in the fuel map, perhaps to a lesser degree?

When I retired my 900, the crank was at 4500 miles. The guy I sold the case and crank to, rebuilt the top end and its still running.

2000 miles on my carls 975, no crank issues, knock on wood. I also have my oiler turned way up for extra lube.

I have had every electrical problem you can name but it's dialed in now.

Some high mileage 6000 and 5800.So the question is why do some blow and some not,may be bearings, blowing belts at high RPM,clutch maintenance or just manufacturing quality control.
