What gearing do you run?

I am changing my track from a 151 to a 162 and putting a 9 clog anti ratchet driver on (had 9 clog on it). But when I opened the gear case, I noticed I had 21-41 gearing. It seems like a high speed ratio. I was wondering what you guy's were running?

Stock Ratio typically is 1.95 (21/41)....a step down normally gets you 2.15 (19/41), 19/43 = 2.26 I run this gearing and it is fun on the trails....very quick. I am going to try a 20/43 with my current clutching to see what happens to my top end.

Be aware that your chain will come into play....19/43 = chain There is a post somewhere with a chain pin calculator...search for it.

I really liked 19/43 (yes I had to get a chain) on my Edge RMK 800 with stock 9t drivers and a 159x2" track. Now I have the same gears, but 7t 3.0" pitch drivers turning a 174x2.5 and its a tractor. Accelerates HARD and clutches stay coolish for that much track, just won't go over 70mph.

I had mine out on the lake yesterday and hit 83mph top speed with 162x2. I have debated gearing down more but i like the speed for around home riding.

goingboarding-what did you do to fit the 2.5? what track? I just put on a AC 2" to test the different lug pattern, i like it so figure i would do a 162x2.5 challenger.

Its a camo extreme 2.5". Last year I ran it with the front cooler removed and 7tooth anti-ratchet drivers, had a little more rub than with the stock 2" paddle. This year I did a chaincase drop and now have much more room. I could run 8 tooths with a 2.5" or squeeze a 3" (with 7tooth) though that would probably be awfully tight.

The tight spot in this tunnel is up top of the drivers.

To do it again, I'd go with a 162x2.5x15 and still do the chaincase drop. I noticed with the dropped case it gets up on the snow better.

chaincase drop=extended chaincase or drop&roll?

I have a drop&roll already so i think i can fit the 2.5 fine.

Sorry for the hyjack

I just dropped my case 5/8" and didn't roll it at all. After pulling the front cooler I didn't see any need to roll it, and it saved me from moving trailing arm mounts. But yes, with the D&R you should be good to go for 2.5" with or without the front cooler, probably need to run 7t drivers and that's it.

Cool, i currently run 7tx3" and still have the front cooler with a 2.125 lug track i have room so the 2.5 should be fine i figured. I am trying to determine if i have track rubbing/tip to driver rubbing or ratcheting though, need to tighten track and see if that fixes it first.
