Custom Coolant Based Carb Heaters

Just throwing this out there. Is there any interest in custom carb heaters. I get asked pretty regularly to build them so I whipped up three, which is a bit of an exaggeration as they are time consuming to make. This design which I can't take credit for (Thx Ravenous, credit where credit is due) offers a few advantages. The first and most important IMO is the heater heats the carb flange 360 degrees so there is no chance for cold spots. The second is the heater is compact and doesn't add a whole lot of length to your carb throat.

There would be two options, first is I supply what you see in the pics less the brass and you have the interior opened up by your local machine shop. IMO this is the way to go because you can measure your carb and open up the inside of the heater to the 6 thou less needed for a hot/cold tolerance fit. The second option would be me doing it with your measurements which may be fine or could go bad depending on how well you can measure (read here you need to mic it, not use a tape measure). The fitting holes are tapped for 1/8th NPT so a common brass fitting.

Currently I have the three done to the point where the interiors need to be machined. As is would be $125 USD plus shipping, fully done probably another 30 bucks or so.

Pm me if you are interested.

Just gonna go ahead and say, if you have time I would make another 10-20 and put them on the shelf. I'll be buying one for sure pretty soon

$125 is an awesome deal. They're pretty labour intensive to build. I have the parts for a few here, too, but I wondered how people would install them.
If you have their carb you can throw it in the lathe and skim the intake bell for a perfect shrink, so for that reason I just made a few for local guys. Anyway if people can somehow fit them on they make a sweet heater.

Nice!

Those are sweet. That will fit a lot better in the cr500 frame than the competition!

The square heaters are a pain for some frames, plus they look goofy when they are cocked. Another plus to the round heaters is they pass coolant all the way around compared to three sides like the Avid. I made one for my 500 with M5's help and it worked and looked great !

This is it for now, I have 3 ready to go and 1 is spoken for pending payment. I won't be doing anymore until after Xmas if at all cause its a giant PITA and I have a ton of other stuff that needs attention.

Are these 2 parts welded together then turned down? Will it fit, with the machining you stated, my 38 pwk? And I'll take one how do I pay for it?

Yes it will fit the PWK 38, that's what I run. PM me for payment details.

The first three are gone but I ended up having a bit of time and I made up 2 more, 1 is spoken for pending payment so I have one left and for sure I won't have the time to do anymore plus I'm out of materials. If you want one its now or never.

Don't know what the profit margin is, but if your making decent money on them maybe you should consider making more. I don't think you'll have any issues selling them.

Maybe in the new year if there is enough interest. Currently I'm sold out and I have no materials left.

I bought one of these off M5 and I have to say the transaction went as smooth as anyone could ask for. I am a clueless newbie and he walked me through the whole thing. Got it all dialed in for my application. Great dude, if he makes more of them jump on one while you can. Thanks again M5

So I'm almost done this run of heaters if anybody is on the fence about wanting one for your 2 stroke speak now because I'm likely not doing any more any time soon.
