my scoot has original skis, I want to replace them with smaller plastic skis, have heard that mounting new skis takes some engineering. any advise for a newbie?

You will have to fab up a set of mounts. The other alternative is to buy just a set of plastic ski skins. Cheaper and work the same. I'd fab something up though LOL

Not so much engineering as a little bit of flat plate, tape measure, a grinder with zip disk (or plasma cutter) and a wielder. If you make your own mounts you can widen the ski stance a bit (offset) and add a bit of height for better clearance. End result should be a big improvement.

If you find a set of skins that are close in size you can use a heat gun to form them to match the stock ski.
