2.6 Powerclaw Vs. 2.5 Camo Extreme. Which is better on our sleds?

Ok, I admit it. The pictures of the new 2.6" Powerclaw have me dreaming of a new taller track.

I like my 2.25" Powerclaw on my M8 but, I also loved the 162 x16 x 2.5" Camo Extreme I had on my RX-1.

Does anyone have any idea how the weight of these two tracks compare?

Does the design of the new Camo Extreme for our sleds work better than the old design?

Surely, someone must have impressions or experience with these tracks?

What's your call?

The track design appears to have changed.

Thanks Fasta76, yes I read the thread you posted and anything else I could find before creating a new post. The thread you posted more or less compares the 2.25" Powerclaw to the 2.5"Camo Extreme.

I don't believe (I may be wrong) that the 2013 Pros came with a 2.6" Powerclaw.

I am most curious how the 2.5" Camo Extreme 9174 (153") or 9175 (162") compares to the 2.6" Powerclaw.

I'm wondering if the 2.6" Powerclaw has been available long enough for anyone to have impressions on how the track actually works in the snow.

Just became available to the public in the last month or so. I don't know where there would be snow to test it. :face-icon-small-con

There were a few around last spring/late winter. I think the Powerclaw will be a great powder specific track and the Camoplast Extreme tracks will be better all-around. Braking is where the claw suffers and spring time snow. Deep fluff is where it excels.

Thanks for the input. I see Snowest gave an award to Cat for the new 2.6" Powerclaw. I know the magazines have tested the track and probably a few others during development.

I really would like to know the difference in weight between the two tracks as well.

I had a pc 162x 2.6", 85 duro priced out $1,300 and the ce 162x2.5" is $860. I will be buying the ce. The pc is not worth $440 extra.

Thebreeze, I have seen the same prices you mentioned. I'm just trying to figure out if the new 2.6 Powerclaw is worth $100 more than the well respected Camo Extreme.

I just haven't read much discussion on how the new Camo Extreme with the design of the 9174 and 9175, work compared with the older style Camo Extreme tracks. The new style tracks look to me to be lighter in weight than the original design but, is the design as effective as the original?

A couple of years ago when I had a Camo Extreme on My RX-1 and a Powerclaw on my M8. A buddy asked me which I liked better said, it's like the difference between Joe Fraizer (being the Camo Extreme) and Muhamad Ali (being the Powerclaw). They both get the job done nut, the Powerclaw floats like a butterfly using more finese to get up on top of the snow. The Camo Extreme acts more like a Brawler and just pulverizes the snow in its effort to getting you on top of the snow.

the 2.5 is not a 2.5. On the same measurement used for the 2.25 PC, the 2.5 is a 2.75.

It's also much cheaper, has a warranty (guys putting these on sleds that didn't come with them... keep it in mind. I only know a few guys that got burned on the 2.25 PC, but cat did NOT warranty their tracks if they didn't come with the sled, which was BULLSH**.

Good point Backcountry!

So if I understand correctly, the 2.5" Camo Extreme measures 2.75" tall? Is that all the way across or just on a few taller tips?

I think I read the Powerclaw was 2.6" just at the tips of the fingers? How tall is the 2.6" Powerclaw measured on the paddles (where the 2.25" track measures 2")?

If that's the case, it makes this a bit easier to figure out.

Does a 2.75" track fit without any trimming?

How many RPM will it drop my shift speed in a climb when coming from a 2.25" track? I know, it's probably very snow and incline dependent.

What about a ballpark figure? I'm guessing 150-200 RPM drop.

I haven't priced the 9174 (153") Camo Extreme on TracksUSA yet (I wish they still listed prices). I see this outfit has the track for $784 with no tax and free shipping. Also, they list the weight of the track a 47.2 pounds. I suppose that is the shipping weight with the plastic wrap. So, 47 lbs. may be a good number for weight for the 153"? However I doubt it, looking at the Tracksusa site shows the 146 Camo Extreme 2.5 at 54 lbs and the 155 at 57 lbs so, I am guessing the weight of a 153" 2.5" Camo Extreme is 55.5-56 lbs.

I too am interested in the "ways" of measurement but.......regardless, the 2.6PC on my sled measures 2.375 - 2.625" on the fingers depending on which you measure. The backside of the paddle measures 2.6875 (2 11/16") at the tallest point.

To make sure I understand:

The paddles on the 2.6" Powerclaw measures 2.375".

The tips of the fingers measure 2.625".

The backside of the paddles measure 2.6875".

Now, how does that compare to the Camo Extreme? Does anyone have actual measurements?

Right?

Did you weigh your track? Was it a 153"?

SledderX, good call.

I almost forgot, my old Camo Extreme was not a single ply and was quite heavy. With the new single ply design the track should be quite a bit lighter and hopefully still very durable.

I just called Tracksusa for pricing and the 153" 9174 Camo Extreme is $690.00 and the 162" 9175 Camo Extreme is $710.00. As an example, shipping to my area of eastern Washington from Minnesota would be $40.00. So, a 9174 shiiped to my door would be $740.

I forgot to ask about the actual track weights.

The backside of the paddles measure 2.875".

Right?

No not exactly.....Im going to use fractions this time......Paddles measure
2 11/16" (I measured the back of the paddle because that is what grabs and pushes the snow.

The fingers on the outside edge have a varied profile...One finger measures 2 3/8" and the next 2 9/16".

I haven't found any thing that measures 2.875 (2 7/8") on the new 2.6PC.

Yes I run a 153" and it weighed 52.5lbs.
