So I sold a sled to a guy today. Him and his buddy were very sharp, knew a lot about Cats and mods on Cats. He told me that the 2019 Cats would have to be 2020 compliant and his contact at SLP said that would make them harder to get power out of with aftermarket mods. Anyone know if this is correct?

2019 and 2020 have no differences in epa Rules have not changed since , well forever. No changes in the near future either.

I had a good talk with my local dealer about the 600 reliability (he's sold 1,000+ 600 c-tec2s with ZERO failures, btw, and I believe him), which led to me asking if the new 800s have had any teething issues.

Anyways, he said nothing major, but that the 2019 800s would have new calibrations to tweak minor issues, and that the new calibration couldn't just be flashed to all existing or new engines; Any new calibration itself has to be EPA-certified before being released to the public.

Perhaps that's what was meant by "compliant."

I just found it interesting (ridiculous?) that a simple reflash to make these motors run better has to go through the whole certification process again, but I suppose that shouldn't be surprising... damn EPA.

So you are saying the rules are the exact same for 2018 as for 2019 and 20?

So I just went to the EPA website. Only thing there was from 2002 when they proposed regulating snowmobiles for emissions, 2006 for when they actually set the standards and 2012 when they rewrote the standards after litigation was settled.

If there's anything to it, I wonder if it has to do with European emission standards. I know KTM released their fuel injected 2s dirt bikes to meet some kind of 2019 or 2020 standard over there.

OEM's report the emission output of each flash/CPU configuration offered by motor to the EPA.
