Anybody else see this? Any thoughts? Looking into options for clutching, talked to a few different manufacture's at Hay Day's and haven't decided yet.

8 HP to the track would be amazing. If that was possible it would be the absolute best bang for the buck you could spend on a sled. I think MDS weights are either a love it or hate it thing. I spent a year working to try to get them to work well a few years back. Had an identical sled with a combination of things I had found to work really well through my own testing that I would compare against after every change during our rides. I could never come close to getting the MDS set up to run, climb, or more importantly to me hold consistent RPM. So I sent it back and he refunded my money. You absolutely can not beat that. I know many people swear by their weights. They didn't work for me but I don't think you will ever find a more stand up place that stands behind their product like MDS does.

Hopefully the 18 weights work different up here above 10500ft, which is the magic number on MDS weights for me. I've tried every weight loading configuration on them on my 16 M8, and every time at 11000ft I have issues with them not upshifting and stopping on the flat part of the weight. Same issues I had with them on my '10 M8

I machined 2 grams off base weight and that allowed me tune to get past that problem finally, but yes that is a problem above 10k, 2018 MDS weights base weight is much lighter so it should work

--How much lighter is the base weight of the 18 MDS weights compared to 16 MDS weights?

--Spring bind in the secondary may also play a part with inconsistant clutching-- i am going to use these from bmp this year

Why would the '18's differ from the '16's? Isn't it the same primary?

The 2018 clutch has the bearing in the center so it reacts differently and the weight to roller gap is massive compared to the 2016 models. Steve and I got good testing time this spring because the snow held out. We got things dialed in for naturally aspirated and turbo setups. Weights should be available in a few weeks.

--Is the spider just shimmed out more giving clearance ? or, aside from accomodating bearing shaft, are components different at the roller and weight end of the clutch??

Yes, it is just shimmed out more. MDS had various clearance options on prototype weights and we settled on a good one. Because of the bearing you don't get the slap you normally would with weight to roller clearance like they have. Cat and every aftermarket weight company I know of beside MDS is using the same profile weight as before.

They have been really good. I get great reviews every day from sets that we have sold.

I like mine, no complaints, Steve Recommend 75.1 for 8-10k I was running 7,700 and maybe getting to 7,800 but I took out a washer and running 74.3, which seems to pull a few more rpm's.

5-7k you can use the stock spring.

Pull much harder off the bottom through the mid. Top end is about the same.

We have quite a few customers in that elevation range.

I have them on an 18' Mountain Cat, Love them, work as advertised, hole shot stockers all the time, pull a little harded in the mid, same on top. Mine has the white spring with red stripes as recomended for my alt. 3-6000'. Best after market weights PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone had belt-sheave clearance issues after installing these in the new style primary clutch? Got a set to put in a new takeoff clutch on my 2014 and the belt grabs hard enough that the sled takes off if you start it. Date on the primary is December 2016. Curious if I got a bad early build primary or if anyone has had to shim their spider out.

Edit: first pic is my clutch. Second is my dad's 2018 mountain cat. Looks like mine is missing the washer with locking tabs under the spider. Appears to not be available as an individual part...

This weekend we lined up a 175" 850 skidoo,155" 800 pro, and my 162" mountain cat. When the snowball hits the ground we go type race up hill in spring type snow. I blew them away off the line, and they couldn't catch me.
All stock except I have the mds clutching.

I am under revving climbing (7850 rpm)
But in the road I'll hit 8300
