Yes, it will help if you lower your spindles one inch as this is how they came stock in 07-08. You may also buy 17 inch shocks which will do the same thing for you. If it were me i would just spend the couple hundred dollars and buy either a holz or zbroz front end but obviously cash is tight for some more than others.
Either direction you choose will be a great improvement over what you are using now.
