I too have always geared my sleds down....until the 2012 etec.
I am now gearing them UP. They went a little past that sweet spot IMO, at 19/51 on the 163 you cannot gear them any lower, they were 19/49 on the 154's. I am told the '13 will be the same but have not seen them yet.
I put a 21 on top, gets rid of the dogleg and puts the gearing right back to the ratio I have always liked with the TRA in the hills with a big track.

I should add....on the '12's the "X"'s and standard models are geared differently.

What gearing did you settle with on the 3 inch?

On the 2013's the 163 has 19/51 and the 154 has 19/49. I just put the Roosterbuilt clutch kit in mine with 21/51 gearing (on a 163). Plenty of room for the 21 tooth gear.

Do the 12s and 13s have the same clutching?
Does the21-51 work a lot better then the 19-51?
Thx

I think that is more of a riding style/ area snow type question. Both will work it depends more on your preference and clutch set up.
