I just got my IQR chassis.. No motor so I am starting fresh.. I dont have much money to dump into any motor so I need to make what I get work for me.. I am thinking a VES 600.. I know they kind of lack in power and thats what has me thinking.. It seems to be the easiest swap, but I am not convinced it will haul me around..:) I am probably 220 fully geared up.. You think this motor would do what I need?? Or should I just do the work and drop a 700 in there.. I think I read the new 600's had almost, if not as much power as the 700 motor.. Might have been non VES, but still.. The new 600 motor is pricey though!! Whats everyones thoughts?

Enough is relative, I'd rather ride a 600 than stay home, but more power is better, especially for what you weigh. I've been riding a 600 all season as my Dragon has been down, but I only weigh 150 lbs.

Well part of last year I rode an old 700 non VES and I thought it was fine.. Never rode anything smaller though.. I dont want an 800 due to reliability issues and even though I just came off of a 900, I think a 700 might still be OK..Just not sure on the 600 since it seems to be for lighter riders like yourself..

I ride 99% mountains/powder.. should have mentioned that also.. I ride the trail just long enough to get to where I can get off.. then never touch it again..

i think that sled with a 600 would be fine ya ur not gunna blast up a hill at 80mph but you will still be able to go up some pretty good hills. my friend rides that same sled because he has only had good luck with the 600 motor.

I will probably be running a 151 track under it.. right now it has a 144.. Not sure on the gearing, but I know it isnt stock.. How will the 600 handle my fat *** and a 151 track?? :)

We need to get Autolodge to chime in on this thread. He LOVES 600's. I weigh or weighed about the same as you. I started doing these IQR's with a 600 VES. I will be honest I did not give it enough time, or try to set it up right suspension wise. I soon switched the 660 VES (big bore) and then on to a 800 VES shortly there after. What are you doing for suspension? Stock? Longer?

I know for a fact that Auto has had some rippers for 600's, and they where longtracked. He probably is a little less than 220. Like said above, alot of it is keeping it tuned properly. My lack of general snowmobile knowledge when I started these IQR projects has led me to upgrade instead of tuning. Sorta figuring it out now. But I was bummed a little last year when Auto blasted by my newly installed 800. :( Haha.

Sorry just caught the 151, etc, etc. Whats under it for a skid? The OEM IQR skid has a radical attack angle that does hamper its top speed and powder riding, even if lengthened.

The 600 stock is a little weak but still fun. My 2 cents, go with a 600, I'd even spend a little extra and go with the HO over a VES. then next year you can bump it up to a 685. Meathooker had one in his IQR 2years ago and it was awesome.
unless you already have the 700?

Option two, find a 600ves edge on craigslist(I saw some on there for around 2gs) rob the motor and rear suspension and yard the rest out.

edit I forgot you have suspension, never mind above.

I may have just found a smokin deal on a 795.. Currently not oil injected and runs on 110.. Can the head be changed to run on lower octane fuel and can oil injection be added?

im no expert but i still think the 600 will pull a 151 if that 795 falls through. this is a little out of the ordinary but i know a guy with a pro-x 440 running a 144. now i know he runns like 9000 Rpms up the hill but its doable. i like the idea of a 600 ho then a upgrade to a 685 stroker. like jet fuel said about meathooker he use to have a 685 now i think hes running a 800turbo. its not fun unless your always changing things.

795 or 797?? I converted my 797 to pump gas and oil injection.
I had to change pistons and head which required the cylinders to be re-nic'd so I could run slp 727 pistons, my new displacement is actually 795.
If that has already been done you should be able to do a head and add an oil injection pump.

isnt their something about stroking 440s im not sure but herd something about it before

(the race 440)

The 440's have the same stroke as the 600...but...the rod length is different so its not as simple as bolting on 600 cylinders. It can be done with some machining but the 440 carbs are too small, by the time you converted it to a 600 you'd be better off just buying a 600. And I think he just has a roller to work with.

I am not sure.. He says its a 795.. He got it as a Polaris race motor and had it in his IQR. I havent seen it, but its a friend of mines father in laws motor.. :face-icon-small-dis
