Was out sledding about 5 miles from the house with some buddies. A friend of mine who had never really been riding much asked if he could come, so I put him in front of me on mine. He's real small, so it's easier and less ghey that way. On our way back to the house, i'm sidehilling in a ditch, and he accidentally hits my right hand and knocks it off the throttle. I lost momentum, and ended up beside the sled, and hear the loudest SNAP i've ever heard in my life, and then proceeded to cry like a girl till the ambulance showed up and I was airlifter to the city.

We got to the city at around 11:30 pm, and I was not seen by a doctor or nurse until about 11:00 am the next morning. Talk about a rough night....

Ugh, I remember getting that phone call at 12am that night. Talk about not sleeping worth a chit when you find out your buddy breaks his leg in 3 places:eek:.

Anyone notice that the little bone isn't straight? Apparently, that's okay, and they're leaving it like that. Sound okay?

yep. your fibula is not load bearing like the Tibia. It should grow bone calous and grow back. How's the bone growth doing?

Are you a smoker? If you are and haven't quit you better or that leg will never be the same. I've seen guys break like that or less severe who still gimp around after 3 years cause they smoke. Know one guy who got smashed against a bumper by another car doing 30 and he snapped both legs bad. NO smoker and he was playing football 2 years later.

I was wondering more about those nice long screws they locked the nail in place with.

Had shivers run through me just looking at that, god that had to hurt!!!

Aren't those some crazy azz looking screws? My kids spine is screwed together with screws and when they brought us a bag with the rod and screws they used I about fainted, those look like screws I'd use to build a deck or something.

2 up sidehilling???? Hmmmm, remind me to not ever try that...

Your seriously getting out of sledding now?? What are you going to do with all your extra money now?:D

Hope you get recovered soon.

Thanks guys! The bone healing is going okay. The specialist said they likely won't be fully healed for approximately 1 to 2 more years.

The screws are rediculous. I'm still debating whether to have them removed or keep them.

The fibula is not a load bearing bone, but let me tell you.... This happened on November 21st,a nd I was walking in snow today and broke through the crust, and hit bottome... OWWWWWWWWWWCCCCHHHHH!

I'm a contractor, and so hadn't made a single penny in over four months due to this injury. I decided that sledding (as big a part of my life as it is) isn't worth the risk really. We'll see what happens. Either way, i'll sell out for next winter, and see how it goes.

I went thru the same thing 28 years ago . Had the screws and a metal plate taken out but you can still see the outline of them . Hell ya it hurt to walk on for 3 years after, then slowy went away. Did i quit doing anything over it NO . Just take the time to let your body repair the bones they will become stronger thru time . 100% no but good enough to do what you want . The doctor told me to never take up skiing, But I didnt listen . I dont think he knew about SKI-DOO back then.

broke my tibia and ankle on Jan 17, have a plate running up the tibia from just above the ankle to mid calf. I have two screws through the plate, tibia and into the fibia. I go in on the sixth to have them removed. Doc says no big deal- take em out here in the office with a local anesthetic and a couple small incisions- really not looking forward to it. I was only off for six weeks, you have to be going insane

Dude, that there is some funny sh*t. I'm not at all laughing at your injury. It look like it hurts like a mother#*$er, and I hope you heal up good and quick. Seriously.

But I gotta ask: How, exactly, is it "less ghey" that way? Still two guys on a sled right? "Less ghey" for who?

For the record, I had to ride out double-up to get a truck/trailer to haul my POS sled out a month or so ago. It felt kind of ghey, and I'm pretty sure it would have felt pretty much ghey to be on the front or the back...
