Guys,

I live in MN and currently have my sled set-up for around here and i will be taking 2-3 trips after X-mas. I want to get a thread going on different ideas for clutch set-up for 9-11K. I am coming from AC so I have some learning to do. Any suggestions will be appreciated. My only mod so far is an slp can and some non-engine stuff.

Good post. I too have mine clutched for MN, but I did pick up 62's for 9-11k. But I am wondering if Polaris' specs would suffice?

And, what is your MN set up? I just changed the wieghts to 68 grams.

besides weights, what else is everyone changing?

Ive heard that people are running a 62/42-.46 or 64/42-.46 helix for higher elevations but what would be a good helix number to run down low? same?

Same or you could even go to a 66-44.46.

thanks,
because they are recommending the 62/42-.46 for the 155s and 163s up high, so with a shorter 146, Id think it could pull a little more...
and plus down low it should be able to pull alot more, am i correct?

does anyone have a place to check all the team helix grinds?

Correction, I believe the 60's are for 8-10k. The 62's are stock for 6-8k.

Going from experience with the 08's.....You won't get full shift with too light of weights 58's & 60's for sure 62's very marginal-with the stock helix. Carls has a new dual angle helix this year with less finish angle for stock 8's at high altitudes. Both cuts are steeper than stock in the full progressive initial that helps reduce track spin at engagement....hooks up better.
On some applications they also use AM weights with mass distribution different from Poo 10 & 11 series that let you run lighter weights but more mass on the tips to get full shift.
You can experiment but might save in the long run with a proven set-up. Altitude is one factor because it changes power, but track, track length, snow conditions (wet coastal vs dry powder), mods like pipes, etc. all change clutching needs.

Yes it will pull more helix at lower elevation since your sled makes more power. I run the 66-44.46 in my Pro-X up to 8K ft. and then switch to the 66-42.46 grind above 8K feet. Different setups can achieve the same thing though, remember that.

Question?

I am 6'2" and 250lbs, will my sled pull less weight in the primary or does rider weight have no effect. My thoughts are that it should, but I want to make sure I am on the right track.

144 shift 800

I am wondering about clutching for a '09 144 shift 800. SLP pipe/can, and 2in finger track. I am about 200 lbs riding weight, what is the factory clutching? what would be a good set up for here in MN, at about 1300 feet. and what would work out in west yellow stone?

I have EPI 70s in my 02 800 mod, 136" and it pulls hard as hell, with a 23-41 gearing, and a sliver spring. i have a team on the 02 and i think it is 72-66-.46 i know it is a steep one because the guy used to ice drag it.

thanks guys! safe riding

Just wondering if one of these 62/42-.46 or 64/42-.46 helix for higher elevations works well, how come mine came stock with 56/42/.36 and works great, but i had to change to 60 gr weight at 8000 to 10000 feet? Am i really missing that much performance by not running the 62/42-.46 or 64/42-.46 helix or we talking about difrent clutch? really want to know!!!!

I run in MN too with D8 163, running with belly buster 68 and everything else stock, limitar straps all the way out. Sled ran like sh*t until about 150 miles, now it runs pretty good.

guys are stepping up the initial helex angle in order to get a faster upshift(sled acelerates harder),partly to help it trench less on takeoff in deep powder /partly to make it acelrerate quicker.

if it up shifts faster, would that be kinda like how you can "lug" a four stroke dirt bike up a hill as compared to high rev on a two stroke??? This seems like to me that it would not accelerate very quickly because it would be in a higher gear and have less torque to pull it hard. Do I make sense or am I just not thinking right???? I am really wanting to understand clutching better so any other input would be great!!!!!
