Default How often to test your avalanche airbag?

We receive a lot of questions regarding avalanche airbags and how often they should be tested.
When you first purchase your avalanche airbag we HIGHLY recommend you do a test. In my personal opinion, this test is not to test whether or not the airbag is going to work, but instead is to get you familiar with the HOW the airbag works. Also, it gives you a chance to practice repacking the airbag. You would be surprised how many times people accidentally deploy their airbag out riding. It will be much easier for you to re-pack your airbag if you have had some practice.

In addition to testing your airbag when you first purchase, we also recommend testing your pack once per year at the beginning of the season. One, this will make sure nothing unexpected has happened to your pack during the off-season, but more importantly, it will again get you familiar with your pack.

In order to test your pack, you will either need a new canister (if you have an ABS pack) or a refill kit (if you have another brand). Make sure to replace the o-ring each time you fire your pack if you have a BCA Float airbag.
You can get airbag canisters and refill kits on our website snowbigdeal.com.

Also, we will be at the following snow shows if you want help with deploying or repacking your airbag: HayDays, Denver, SLC, Boise, and Jackson Hillclimbs.

Please feel free to call us or email us if you have any airbag-related questions.

Yep every fall, usually in front of friends to show them. You would be surprised how many people do not know what it is or does.
Forgot to add I have deployed it once on the sled doing 15 mph, more difficult than one would think.
Another skiing down the slope at good speed, not easy.
