I did not read all the thread but all I want to say is with your fees.
I have dial up connection and I already have to wait for the ****ing ads to come up. If I have to pay to be a member I would expect to be no advertising.I strongly suggest we boycut this forum and all go to another one that free.

Christopher,

While I personally disagreed with the change by Harris Publication and I voiced that opinion, I had no reason to think negatively of you as a person. It was a business decision, a wrong one, but still their choice.

I have seen the childish, ignorant behavior against Snowest flaunted on the other site that you keep replacing on posts (how rude you cannot allow that site name on here!) and found it offensive. I have even been flamed for calling them out for it and being told to go back to SnoWest since I was defending it. I COMPLETELY understand the bad actions taken by this group, yet I understand their frustration with that changes and how that drives their behavior.

This quoted section though in your current email has harmed you, indeed becoming just like the idiots and jerks who behaved childishly and rudely. Characterizing them as a "gang," name calling (trolls), and assuming they don't really care about the sport is going too far.

I objected to the move to a pay site and will not pay for the premium service and I am not any of your characterizations. You have now offended me with your "either with us or against us" over-simplistic grouping. You have drawn battle lines that allow for no gray and that is just wrong.

Please learn from this in the future and grow beyond giving them vindication with your actions. You must keep the emotion out of it, no matter how much they attack you and keep the reasons business professional no matter what others do. Act, do NOT react.

"Sadly there has been a small gang of naysayers who have used this as a rallying cry to support their personal agendas and have taken it upon themselves to do as much damage to the site as possible by spreading their anger and discontent through what seems like an unending series of hate filled posts and threads, and of late spamming the site with pornography. (If you have not seen any of this you can thank all of the volunteer moderators who have been working overtime at cleaning it up as fast as it appears. If you have been the recipient of their scorn or abuse, please don't hesitate to report the post so we can remove it from SnoWest. Life is simply to short to have to put up with this nonsense) Unfortunately, the vindict!
ive and spiteful actions of these few people serve only as another reason why we are moving forward with the paid member option. Even when it only costs 2 cents a day, paid memberships act as a filtering system to separate those who give our sport a bad name (the Trolls) from those who really care about our sport, it's people, and the community at large. Members with a vested interest in the success of the SnoWest Forums will seldom squander that investment for the opportunity to trash other members or the site itself. Our paid premium members will also have a real voice in helping us choose the direction of the SnoWest Forums as we move forward, and will discover that we now have the resources ready and available to help make SnoWest work the way they want it to."

know i won't be paying and won't be renewing my subscription to the mag, gotta treat your peeps a little better. paying for a forum internet site is just silly...
Paying is one thing but it's being forced on everyone now.
Dootalk doesn't charge to be a member, but you can upgrade for a fee. But you still can use the site, this site is useless unless u pay. how are you planning on attracting NEW members, when you can't show what the site has to offer, since they can't use the site.
At this time i'll save my little 10 bucks, cause it's like you said it's about the principle, not the money and I don't like to be strong armed into paying, Go kick rocks, all I do is check riding conditions, and see how guys are getting ripped off by moderators selling turbo xp kits. thanks but no thanks.
I get all my Doo info on DooTalk and I pay there BrewcityBoondocker Doocrew *****. But I wasn't forced too,I felt that I owed the site since they offered me something for my bread. I haven't seen much worth paying here.
how does dootalk doo it without charging?????????????????????????????

I've been reading this thread top to bottom and have a few thoughts:

For me the cost of a single day of sledding (If I'm lucky I get about 20 rides a year) is about $250.. I still have a loan on two of the four sleds, $150 a ride right there, add fuel, oil, repair parts and upgrades and $250 is VERY conservative. I had to buy a new track and I upgraded a suspension this year… It sure doesn’t include breakfast before the ride and dinner after..

Whenever Tink and I leave COSTCO she see’s the homeless guy on the corner, never fails to give him 5 or 10 bucks, I’ve been giving to United Way for over 30 years, I give every time someone at work gets transferred, hurt, sick or, god forbid, dies..

If I can afford to spend $250 a ride (minimum) and I can afford to give to both registered and unregistered charities (including my annual to Animals Ladies) then I think I can afford $10 a year to be on this forum if only for the entertainment value of listening to all you moan and groan… makes me feel like I’m still in the Navy where we said “a b!tching sailor is a happy sailor.”

I’m in the telcom business now; I know how much it costs for the broadband, servers, software and talent to operate a site like this. Any of you want to take your personal fortune and run a site like this, and deal with the regulatory restrictions on keeping inappropriate content from the under 18’s, then be my guest.. I’ll join that site too and sip that Kool-Aid right up to the point if becomes too much of a hassle for you or your money runs out.

So in short: PUT UP or SHUT UP!! For god’s sakes people, is your life so empty this is what concerns you the most???

It's the point weather we can afford it or not. The facted is people are pissed the that someone is coming in after all the hard work is doine ... members and massive content ... and trying to make a buck. Bottom line is this will make a bunch of money at first, many will pop for the three year but after the first year or so the content that brought them here will be greatly reduced, so they won't come around as much until not at all, but who cares cause they have the money. Eventually the site will fail or be turned back to an open forum.

The problem is that no one in charge cares, because they will have made a ton of money for a few years. They will shut it down and move on and find another cash cow to milk into the ground. It's the American way.

BTW I'm also in the telecom, for one of the top five telco/broadband providers in the nation, with a huge fiber network and it don't mean sheet. A correctly managed forum has little data transfer in there raw form, they get expensive to operate when you start hosting pictures on the server and attaching images rather then taging to an off prem server, running tons of header add on's and not limiting things like image size and signiture sizes. Mismanagment is the only thing expensive about this site. Heck the members who have already paid would have purchased a new server and a T1 or an HDSL to run the site for over a couple months and BTW either is more then enough to host a site like this and there are still more affordable solutions then either.
