We just returned yesterday from 3 days in the Snowy’s. We found some good snow in the trees but it was very difficult to find. Open areas are all blown clear of snow or hard packed. Climbs are also all tracked up. Definitely would not make a long trip until they get a couple feet of new snow.

Final trip update from Snowy’s...

This place needs more snow and less wind. If anyone has a trip planned here in the next few weeks I’d be watching the weather closely. If the snow comes and lots of it, head here. If it doesn’t I’d stay away for awhile.

Otherwise, some okay tree riding to be had, but most of the areas off trails we were on (O, X, N, NO, K, U) are all tracked up. If you’re lucky and know the area you can find a few untouched meadows.

Ride safe everyone.

Are you sure you was riding the Snowies? That place is never windy and always has blue bird days. You must of been somewhere else. Of the 7 yrs I lived in Laramie, it was never like how you described in your first sentence.

From Old Corral Email:

Conditions
South of HWY 130 (U)
Past 24 hours: 12-24"
Past 7 Days: 12-24"
Current Base: 4-5 feet
UPDATE from Reports Received Tonight
Riders are reporting close to 2 FEET of Powder out of yesterdays storm with more on the way tonight-tomorrow. Wind prone areas are closer to a foot with the wind moving it around. But get into the lower wind protected areas and it is easily bumper height!

North of HWY 130 (U)
Past 24 hours: 24-30"
Past 7 Days: 24-30"
Current Base: 5-6 feet
UPDATE from Reports Received Tonight
Riders reporting 24-30" in the Northwest areas where the wind doesn't move it around too much. High plains areas and other wind prone areas are still lower than that, but get further into the trees and wind sheltered areas and it is fabulous!

Came across this slide yesterday right above North Twin Lake. Haven't seen this spot slide before but not really surprised it slid based on the slope angle. Good reminder to be aware no matter what you know or think you know about the slope. Fairly large crown up top as you can see, but it doesn't appear that it moved very fast and didn't travel very far. Anyone know any details about this one? Assume it was sled triggered based on the tracks in the area.

If it broke off bigger and with more force it seems it could easily bust into the trees below. Potentially bad terrain trap there.

Also, it looks as if the area directly above is holding a lot of snow, wouldn't be surprised if that broke off at some point as well.

I was there within a half hour of it getting triggered. Only 2 tracks around it when I firdt seen it. It was good.and fresh. That was Saturday about noon.

How’s the snow out there? Like riding concrete or is there still powder to be had in the trees? Able to ride out of green rock? Not sure what the base is there and down towards centennial?

We left on Monday, good snow in the trees and better the farther north you go. Jacobi Park is awesome the higher you go. Take your gps so you don’t get lost and push past your normal stopping point, normal traffic areas are beat up but once you get back in past the bulk of the tracks it’s good.

Most recent Old Corral Update:

Conditions
South of HWY 130 (U)
Past 24 hours: 0"
Past 7 Days: 6" Inches
Current Base: 5-6' Feet

North of HWY 130 (U)
Past 24 hours: 0"
Past 7 Days: 6" Inches
Current Base: 6' Feet

Summary:
Warm weather and high winds have settled most easy to find snow. Tree's are holding snow well, but otherwise you need to be adventurous in searching for the untouched meadows with powder. Base is decent, but still advise caution crossing wind prone meadows. Avalanche danger is moderate to high with our influx in temperatures and wind loading...be careful and be prepared. Our most consistent report over the week is that tree riding is great in most areas.

5 Day Forecast for Medicine Bow Peak at 12,000':
Some fresh snow is in our near and long range forecast. One chance overnight tonight through tomorrow night. Some estimates are calling for 11-20", but we are thinking more realistically 3-6"...but we'll be happy if more comes! Small chances all weekend as well, but nothing game changing. Next chance of some fresh snow looks like mid week next week. Moderate winds all week with temperatures ranging from the single digits to the mid 20's on the mountain.
