I have insured chain is in alignment however I keep breaking bolts as you can see from the attached photos, 4 bolts and generally in the same location on the bolt. I have tryed grade 8 and the yamaha bolts. It's boosted however I hear is also happens to stock Nitro's. Good thing for the bolt catch on the cover!!
Anyone know why this is happening.

It pretty much happens to all of them. But I used a grade 8 and shortened it a bit. This was the 3rd time ive opened the case with the bolt not being broken.

Ya I've also tryed shorting the bolt with no luck. I believe the shaft is flexing as the bolt breaks at the end of the drive shaft.

Are the 10's up having the same issue? Or was the change good enough to correct the bolt from breaking?

I was at a sevice Tech update for snowmobiles yesterday. Yamaha said that fixed the problem. First the bolt was to long and it would bottom out and rattle and break. then it was shortened up and that didn't work and now they said they got it right this time. Yamaha said the part number for the bolt is the new correct one.

Broken bolt

Pulled my 08 nytro case apart and of course had the broken bolt, after pulling the old bolt out went to yamaha and they gave me the "new" updated for the 3rd time bolt. We'll see how it holds up this season and will let you know. BTW like others have said, it made no difference in ride with the broken bolt.
Thanks

Molytone is absolutely right. Basicly the cup that holds the spring in place isn't flush with the drive shaft and flexes causing the bolt to break.

Motleyone,

Do you know when Yamaha started using the new ( newest ) style bolt?

Was it 2010 or 2011?

Fxny, did yamaha have a VIN break for the models with the "affected" bolt?

Thanks guys!

there is not a VIN break for the models. Application: FX Nytro, All 2008-2010 -models. the correct part number to order is 90105-10369-00. This is the number from the 2011 Yamaha tech update book.
