Buying a year old sled - is summer, and Nada good?

Hi guys, have a question that those with more experience with sleds and snowcheck etc.

Got quite a few 2021 snowchecked mountain sleds for sale around here. They have 3.5 years of warranty left, and a couple parts.

Is nada a good value to go by, and is summer a good time to buy? The sleds are khaos 850's and are going for about $13.5k which is about $3000 less than a new one with fees and setup and such.

Im mostly asking whether or not summer is a good time to buy one of these, vs in fall, which i imagine they will be sold for more money in fall, privately, or eventually traded into the dealer if no one buys them private.

Thanks.

Thanks. I found a few khaos 165's which is what ive decided i want to try. 2 of them have the 4 year warranty so I think ill pull the trigger on one.

I have a 21 165 Khaos. You will like it. I guess my point wasn't that you won't find one rather there is more choices in the Fall but the prices creep up a bit. Only thing I don't like about the Khaos is the rear shock calibration. Not enough rebound dampening so it tends to bounce off bumps harder than my Pro RMK with Walker Evens piggybacks. Do you have any option of buying in Canada and importing to the USA? (assuming that is where you are) You might save a couple thousand dollars after the currency conversion.

I'm in the USA.

Funny you say that, we've specifically tried to get canadian sleds before, but without driving there and getting it myself, its proved to be a complete pain in the azz.
With drive time, PTO, and fuel there goes at least $1500 so i think ill stick with freedom sleds vs some canuck gear.

I get it it is tough to drive now as the border is closed but when I wanted a USA sled I just drove down and picked it up. Was not a big deal as long as you did your paperwork in advance. As for fuel cost, we just turned it into a mini vacation to justify it.

SUMMER IS ABSOLUTELY THE TIME TO BUY.
But the best deals will be on USED sleds in the summer.

New Ones will be hit or miss, but there is no reason at all that you can't score a great deal if you find the right sled that is just SITTING there collecting dust.

Now for the really annoying question:

850 khaos or pro, less than 1,000 miles.... whats it worth? Nada says 10,600 to 14,000$

I am seeing a lot near 13k and 13.5k with or without a few parts. I'm assuming that is pretty fair with 3 to 3.5 years of warranty left? Thanks duders.

Last year, good used sleds evaporated fast, and if you didn't snowcheck, new sleds were tough to find. Could be the same this year, and many snowcheck buyers are going to be hanging on to their current rides until the new sled actually appears with all parts attached. Buying used now is smart. Reasonable price is less important than getting the particular sled in the condition you want. Good luck.

it will be VERY INTERESTING to see what dealer showroom stock levels look like this coming season.
Last year many of them had just about nothing for sale.

One of my riding partners picked up a 2020 koas with 250 miles for 11 even. I wouldn't pay any more than that. With the matrix chassis taking over, the axys will likely devalue fairy quickly. Just my opinion

That's not a bad idea to wait. Maybe i'll wait out on a sled until next year and keep the arctic turbo turd-o

That’s because your buddy bought a 155 2.6. [emoji23]. The QD2 Khaos with 2.75/3 163/165 will go for more than that. The 2020 155 sleds are super plentiful.

You are on the right track! Hold out for the 2021 Khaos. QD2 and longer track choices. Even if it means a few more $$$ than the 2020.

Looking at an ad right now showing a 2021 qd2 850 with 400 miles posted for 11,750. OP didn't mention what configuration they wanted anyway. Regardless, I would be second guessing dumping 13,5 on a chassis that will soon be left behind in the dust. Doesn't matter if it has qd2 or a 2.75, it's still an axys. It is undeniable that Polaris snowmobiles devalue extremely fast, probably faster than any other brand.

I look around in Colorado periodically and it does seem like snowmobile prices are generally more expensive. So my perspective won't be the same. I also don't latch to the belief that something is 'better' because it has a higher price tag

Good thoughts. If that is a 2021 Khaos 163 or 165 for 11,700 send that to OP, sounds like a deal!

send me the ad thru PM if you would.

I sorta laugh at powersports devaluing though. I mean, they are giant ass money pits. Literally only repair shops and dealers make any money on them. All, and i mean ALL the shops I've called have all the mountain matryx sleds spoken for. Maybe I'll snowcheck one of these days, but I obviously showed up to the game way too late this year.

Besides, all i've seen for the matryx is the rear tunnel is better for wheelies and bowties. all the front is the same. fuel tank is a lil different.

Then you have dealers that think that current year sleds are super special and won't deal, even toward the end of the season. But I guess that's why my local dealer has band new sleds stacked 2 high all over the lot.

My last 2 sleds were used and 1 to 2 years old and I saved THOUSANDS. Like $10,000 between the 2 sleds.

I wonder how the record setting year for Polaris Snowcheck is going to affect the new hold over and used market??
