Yes pretty much as I understand it too, I have ridden a 21 khaos with 165 2.75" and it is has a very snappy throttle response and worked very well but did not out climb my 18 cat 162 3" or the doo 165 3" guys in our group, that being said is the reason I went khaos 163 3" plus it has the belt drive now.

The clearance in the tunnels is different. The axys doesn’t have as much room to evaluate snow which is one reason why a 3” can act different from sled to sled. I don’t know if there is more clearance on the matryx. I’d assume they are the same...
My buddy has a 2019 doo 850 165x2.5” track.
Lug length and pitch are just dimensions. Durometer, lug shape and design, drivers, track rods, chassis, all matter. And then there's types of snow, and personal preference. Best news is - don't like a track, change it, tho not all are (easily) convertible, even with the same pitch. All part of the fun in seeking glory...
The belt drive Polaris is the easiest sled by far to change a track on than cat or doo. Swapped my 163 out on my khaos to a 155 for the spring. You really just can’t have one track be good in all snow conditions. I actually have 3 tracks I use on my khaos. My early season beater track. My deep snow, mid season track and the spring snow track.
I wish they made the same track in 3inch and 2.75 inch to see how many can tell the difference other than knowing that they run.

Maybe it will be a 3.25" lug with 3.5" pitch, just so they can "one-up" the competition. They seem to like doing that.
It is not just the belt drive that makes it so much different. The original 3" series 7 tracks were introduced with chain drive, 3.25:1 (equivalent) gearing, wide front end and on the 800 which was snappy but lacked top end. It was like it was too much track for the sled.
Now the combination of the 850, with the slightly higher gearing and light weight belt drive, make that track spin much faster and with the narrow front end, the results are a sled that initiates easier and gets up on the snow quicker. The fact that it is chain or belt alone is not the whole story.
I put a belt drive on my Khaos 3in.
Went from 2.32:1 to 2.42:1.

The little 800 has plenty of power to pull the 3in track up any hill.

Doubt it spun it any faster than my silber boosted 800. There is variables but chaincase to belt drive is not some life changing one. I'm not a huge fan of the series 7 but that doesn't mean you can't be. I think there are better tracks.
155? Most of the 3" in our area are 163 or 174"
I did not like the series 7 on a 163 800 Axys but do like it on the 174 850 Axys. Why is that? I have a 2021 Khaos 165 to compare with and handling is almost as easy and the 174 doesn't push like the 163 did?? Suspension, snow conditions?

An 800 can spin a 155 x 3" track easier so it may be a decent combo for track speed.
